I didn't know that but I agree. I think show makers did a beautiful job of making that change because it felt all natural. Anna Sawai was terrific and her performance kept elevating as episodes passed. 8th and 9th are my personal favorites from such incredible show throughout.

One thing that this series "Shogun" clearly shows is that Japan had very high Suicide rate

Great series though. Loved each episode. Waited all these months for all episodes to come before starting.

5/5 rating.

Has Shogun ended or is there another season expected?

Sugar on Apple TV+

A ex-special Forces / spy is tasked with finding a missing person, kind of story. Pretty interesting storyline so far (four episodes in).

4/5

Solid 4/5 from me.
I loved the show as well since I too am fond of post apocalyptic drama/movies. Completed it in a weekend itself. After ‘The 100’ on Netflix, Fallout is definitely worth a watch.

5/5!

From what I have gathered, the show has ended. No further seasons are expected.

sometimes me too used to catch snippets whilst sitting with the 9 yr old younger one. I watched the full episode now and chuckled couple of times. Thank you for the share.

It is based on a very popular 1975 novel. The author died 30 years ago. There is no story left for second season, unless they make it up.

I was expecting "Crimson Sky" in the last episode and I was disappointed . Wiki mentions the plans Toranaga made for the future "Battle of Sekigahara". Maybe the second season is on the cards.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

I was just reading that Forbes article (major spoilers warning) and the way show makers worded their response gives nothing away pretty smart.

Whether or not they do S02, I will be really interested in whatever show they decide to make next.

--------------------------

Speaking of Shogun, I started watching another Samurai show called "Blue Eye Samurai" which is an animation show done rather well. Its on Netflix. Its a show about a Samurai in disguise out for revenge. The story sounds simple but its not and character development is superb.
The IMDB rating is 8.6 and 100% of Rotten Tomatoes. The show took me by surprise as I am not a big animation fan but this one is something. Truly beautiful scenes and well written dialogues.

Note there are plenty of adult scenes and gore (as expected). Awesome series to watch after Shogun. I was able to notice a few details from Shogun here too.

I would rate it 4/5.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Baby Reindeer on Netflix.

Based on true story, the seven episode mini series is a very disturbing and uncomfortable watch. It is complex, sad, psychological drama based on the real life story of Richard Gadd. The acting of all the actors is top notch. Definitely rate this as the best drama series I have watched in the recent past.

Be mindful not to watch with kids and impressionable young adults around.

Rating : 5/5

The End of F***ing World on Netflix

A two season, beautiful story of two adolescents. It is dark compelling journey of self discovery for two teens as they embark on road trip which turns into crime spree.

Indeed, Mariko sama turned out to be the real star. With her deep melancholy, she anchors every scene that she is a part of. I also liked Yabushige as he has this ability to lift up scenes when they become too sombre.

I am ambiguous about the ending though. We see how Toranada has played his cards well and out manoeuvred his opponents like a grand chess game, and that is the hallmark of a great strategist. But there could have been at least one grand battle, like the well choreographed Battle of the *******s in GoT.

There is definitely scope for the future. How does Ishido sama react to the loss of power? How will the church and concubines solve their tensions? Does Anjin get to build another fleet ? So many questions that can be answered. And in the middle of it, quiet interludes of life in Japan that really fill up the series.
