Same situation here. My son is 3.5 and does not pedal yet. But with the smaller push type four wheelers, he is extremely fast.

Well, no. He had been pushed around for sometime on those funny looking bulky trikes with canopies (like this:

Name: tricycle.png
Views: 1248
Size: 78.6 KB

but he started standing on the seat or doing such circus which seamed potentially dangerous. Around the same time I introduced that two wheeled contraption which I made from off the shelf parts. Since then he preferred it to tricycle, eventually the later got retired to store room.

[Edit]
Now that am reflecting, I think I get it. When he was around 18 months, I got him this funny looking toy ( he calls it a car):

Name: 50643_Magic_Car.jpg
Views: 974
Size: 26.7 KB

which I thought he would ride it the way they showed on youtube. They call it plasma car, I recollect. The kid rather started pushing it around the house, again with feet. That is what I think made him prefer to push than to pedal. It is only recently that he has finally learnt to move it using friction forces from steering.

Wow...10 days back I posted about my 19 month son not walking on his own.

Suddenly last friday he took 4 steps of his own and flopped to the ground. And no looking back from then on; now he's walking 10-15 or even longer steps. Almost made me moist in my eye, didn't realize I have an emotional side too :-).. Been waiting for this day for last 6-7 months.

Actually he has one of the four-wheel push type car and one tricycle.
He doesn't pedal the tricycle, however I think it partly due to his legs being shorter than what is required to be comfortable on that tricycle. He is not able to reach the pedals comfortably sitting right behind on the seat.

This week we are going to try a bycycle and see if that is more comfortable.

Yes, 'those' moments are priceless, they make your heart warm and full which overflows through your eyes. Especially, if you imagine what your father may have felt watching you do the same.

I don't think it's gender specific at this age. I've seen girls too who are like that, in our apartment complex.
My son too protests by falling down on the floor, if we warn him. Don't think he picked it up from TV, because we don't watch anything apart from news or sports, when he's awake. For him it's only BBC Ceebeebees.

Most of the time if he wants tv, it is a wild life documentary or Disney Cars.
Ceebeebees is a nice channel for kids. There are no violent cartoons and it's mostly edutainment. My son has picked up interest in drawing, painting, vegetables, etc from it.
Also the Barney series of Dvds are good and kids pick up lots of rhymes and singing from it.

In Pune, a lot of car accessory shops stock these, though the designs may not be what you are looking for.

Usually any of the stores that stock car seats would have these as well.

Re: Parenthood: Sharing the joy, precious moments, learnings and experiences

With the good wishes of my family and the blessing of the Almighty, we step into the world of parenthood.

We are blessed with a baby boy on the 3rd of August.

Even though the delivery was through a C Section, I must admit that the entire experience was extremely pleasant.

The delivery took place in Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai and the staff and the entire team not only were extremely cordial but put both me and my wifey darling completely at ease, both before and after the delivery.

A special mention about Dr. Kishori Kadam, a Gynac par excellence with over 15000 deliveries to her credit. Thank you madam!!!

You have been simply wonderful and absolutely supportive through out the duration of the pregnancy.

Now, back to our little bundle of joy.

We have named him Ishaan.

A sweet heart and fair like my wife(Thank fully!!)

The most important gift one could ever ask for is granted

-------------------------------------------------------------

An experience of a 20 day old DAD...

1) No nights and no days. Every day passes in a blur!!
2) An expert in changing nappies and diapers. Now within seconds!!!
3) Adept at handling baby cries, that increases from silence to 300 Db in 3 seconds flat
4) An experience to remember-Sleep wherever(sofa/floor/carpet) and whenever(day/night/evening/late evening) when you can.
5) A chef par excellence. At making instant Lactogen(Formula Feed) when ever needed.
6) Damage Controller and team player- You become the pacifier between the wailing cries of your baby and your wife when she is completely frustrated!!

All's well till the paternity leave remains. After that, as the saying goes

" Picture abhi baaki hain, mere dost!!!"
