Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Yeah, it's weird when official channels do such things. Maybe it could be a reality but while rumours have always been there about past spideys coming in for the new movie, they have all denied it.

Multi verse is amazing

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

After the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the reality is pretty hard to grasp. Think this is the legitimate one, unless someone is playing tricks on our perception of reality like how mysterio did it

Not sure about the first two spideys, but the original Doc Octavius reprises with his signature dialogue, "Hello Peter" and the Goblin too is heard. Hoping Tobey and Andrew makes it into this based on the multiverse theory. From the previous installment J K Simmons is confirmed and as per Wikipedia, William Dafoe and Jamie Foxx are also listed to reprise their roles. For those who have not seen it, do watch 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' (it's a good one), that will explain the multiverse theory. If they manage to bring in all the originals from the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb movies, this could be a sort of Infinity War moment of the Spiderman universe.

Multiverse setup with Andrew Garfield, Toby Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Matt Murdoch and many more playing cameo roles representing their alternate universes (I guess) - this is going to be interesting to see how Marvel stiches the previous two iterations of Spider Man which was completely under Sony Pictures territory than Marvel back then.
And the original/official full trailer is up! Seems like the fan made teaser trailer wasn’t far away from the truth. Have a look

Edit: just noticed now TrackDay has already posted about it around the same time

Doc Strange doing Doc Strange things! This looks like it's going to be Epic \m/

Hope the Spidey trio come together to fight against the multitude of villains. In case you haven't, you guys should most definitely watch this:

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Marvel is doubling down hard on the Multiverse path with the MCU phase 4 and beyond. And they are setting up large parts of that with their Disney+ series too. The events of WandVision and Loki will play a large part in setting up the premise and structure of this multiverse. Spiderman: No Way Home, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, Antman: Quantumania, etc. will develop it further before it will culminate in an Infinity War level of finale sometime in the future. Kang the Conqueror (already introduced in Loki series) will probably be the next Thanos level of villain for the MCU.
With the multiverse, it is very easy to explain the earlier Sony Spiderman movies as occurring in parallel universes and also to cross reference them in the main MCU timeline. That is what we are seeing with Alfred Molina, William Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield reprising their old Spiderman characters in the new movies.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Just Mercy playing on Netflix is a lump in a throat kind of movie. A true story that needed to be told and that Jamie Foxx and Micheal B Jordan are outstanding. Each actor in the movie has been aptly cast and they have played their roles to perfection. The movie reminds me of another masterpiece Missisippi Burning in parts and is no less impactful.

Glad that I got to see this movie in today’s world. A riveting watch. A solid punch in the gut to even think of what the movie is all about.

Rating- Beyond any ratings, the movie needs to be seen to believe in goodness and discrimination, both at the same time.

It is indeed a good movie to watch. Gut wrenching at times. A good 4/5 i would rate for this one.

Shot Caller in Prime, one more hidden gem. A good good prison movie, only thing wrong about the movie is that the title looks like B-grade flick.

Shang-chi and the legend of the 10 Rings: 3.5 / 5

As new Marvel character introductory movies go, this is a good one with a fair amount of proper context, storyline, and good acting thrown in. While there are a sufficient number of Avenger references loosely thrown in across the movie, there's a very nice integration of two supporting characters from the previous movies, especially one that hasn't been seen since 2013!

And of course, as always, wait for the credits to roll out fully. There are two end credit scenes (I missed out on the second one lol).

Thoroughly enjoyed watching "A Most Wanted Man", it is hard to bring a complex story to life. This one does it rather well.

"Our Kind of Traitor" also is a good adaption of Le Carre's novel, a Spy movie with great acting, especially the one cast in the role of Dima. Available on prime [3.5/5]

Watched Black Widow on Disney Hot star, one of the worst Marvel movie I had seen. Family walked off mid way of the screening. Too much family melodrama, loud dialogues wasnt actually reqd.

Overall 2/5

Secret in their eyes - Sonyliv.
Remake of an Argentinian movie, reviews are polarising favouring Spanish version compared to English version. I though throughly enjoyed the English version. Brilliant performances where Chiwtel Ejiofor is sandwiched with Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman. Meanwhile finding avenues to watch Spanish version el secreto de sus ojos.

Completely agree - was extremely surprised how much good reviews it got from critics (79% rating on RottenTomatoes). Even the (usually good) jokes that are present across every Marvel movie were pretty sad in this one. Overall it seemed a very lame attempt just to handover the Black Widow character to a new actor.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - 2/5 (1 star for just being a Marvel movie)

Shang-Chi is a vehicle for Disney/Marvel to pander to one its biggest target audience groups and pander they do and how! From an all Asian main characters cast to generous dollops of Mandarin (the language ) thrown in (at the beginning of the movie my son was wondering if it was an English movie or not) to faithful depictions of Chinese dragons and temple lions (foo dogs), they have left no stone unturned to appeal to the Chinese sensibilities.
However all that makes it the most un-Marvel movie I have seen so far. It seems more like a wuxia movie with American production (think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), with some prefix and suffix scenes added to connect it to the overall MCU. And they do try hard to connect with numerous references to previous Marvel movies and as many a 3 secondary characters and 2 Avengers making cameo appearances in the film. But I still couldn't shake that feeling of watching a Chinese kung-fu film rather than a Marvel film. Add to that there is absolutely zilch information on the origins of the ten rings (I know they would do that in the future sequels), this seems like a half-hearted effort from Marvel with just one aim.
