Afflicted - somewhat similar to the BlairWitch project
The Girl on the 3rd floor - I felt it is an underrated movie; or maybe I am partial due to CM Punk

Robert Downey Jr. is jaded big-city defense attorney Hank Palmer, a specialist in getting unsavory white-collar clients off the hook. As he puts it, “Innocent people can’t afford me.” He is pitted against Robert Duvall as Hank’s estranged dad, Joseph, an upstanding small-town magistrate who suddenly finds himself facing a possible murder rap and relunctantly ends up relying on his hotshot son as his attorney.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Under Suspicion. Thriller/Mystery, released in the year 2000. See it on Netflix India. 5/5 for the performance by the lead actors.

Simple movie, must have been cheap to make overall except for the two powerhouse actors Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman. Absolutely brilliant performance from the duo. A must see if you like these guys. Monica Bellucci is thrown in the mix for the glam quotient.

Cheers

The Gray Man

Streaming: Netflix

Based on a book, this action thriller seems like a combo of James Bond meets Jason Bourne types. Ryan Gosling exceeds in the action scenes along with Ana de Armas. Surprising to see Chris Evans in a negative role but he played it to the part. The story isnt anything new but the treatment in form of the action scenes were simply good. Impressive cast, great locations, thrilling action scenes all right ingredients to make one watch the movie. Indian Actor Dhanush too has a small role to play but mainly in the action scenes. Recommended to watch the movie

Rating: 4/5

A good watch indeed. Although there was some stretch in a scene towards the end.

This is what may be called a full time pass movie. Never a dull moment, but the action scenes though spectacular were stretched to the limit. I feel the movie (time wise) could have been shorter. Chris Evans with a moustache was looking ridiculous, didn’t suit him at all.

Cheers

I had lots of expectation from the movie. It started out well but fizzled out towards the end.

No comparison with John Wick series.

Agree. The end was the most disheartening.

I rated it a 7 on 10 though.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Gray Man: A typical action flick with some good set pieces especially the physical combat scenes. Some good touches of humor too. Nothing wow about it, but a one time watch.

What disappointed me was Dhanush's role. Considering the build up and hype right from the announcement to the pre release publicity events, thought he would have a significant role. Also considering the fact that he is a big star as well as a great actor, thought his would be a major part.

This I felt was a mostly 'blink and you will miss it role'. The 2 short fight sequences were good but I wish there was more of him.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched Doctor Strange-Multiverse of Madness on Hotstar.

Guess this would have been a spectacle to watch in iMax. On smaller screen was not as much fun but not bad per say. Seemed a continuation from Wanda-Vision. One should watch the series before the movie. Illuminati was wasted though. They were reduced to a joke really.

Rating: 3.5/5

Marvel continues to extend its universe but man I so miss Iron Man & to some extent Captain America.

What role? He seemed to be in the movie as an afterthought, seemingly as favour to him or most likely string pulling by somebody big from the production side to get him in an English movie.

He was ridiculous/out of place in the role and should have done better for himself by not taking up this kind of nonsensical stuff. Taking this kind of role reduces respect, makes him look like a nincompoop and a person who is desperate to get a part in an English movie.

Cheers

MIA AND THE WHITE LION

Amazon Prime

An excellent watch; children will specially enjoy it.

That the playfulness involving the eponymous characters is just a facade of/for something more sinister, dawns on the audience very gradually but clearly.

There lies the movie's strength.

Tip: If animals and forests don't excite you, keep looking for beautiful rides: there are a few.
