Yeah, that was a bit of a downer. But I have faith in Ryan and Hugh and their marketing team to keep the interest burning till then.

Their back and forth feuding videos are pure gold!

Moon Fall:
A hair brained concept about the moon moving from its set orbit and how the world is saved. Director Roland Emmerich is not known for his grasp on Science unlike Nolan. But Emmerich has specialized in disaster movies - all C grades like Independence Day, 2012, The Day After and so on.

Rating: 2/5 The 2 is for the special effects alone.

I'd recommend the movie 1922 on Netflix. It's a period film based on a Stephen King novel. I'd rate it 4/5.

Goodnight Mommy: (2022, Prime)

"Twin brothers arrive at their mother's house and begin to suspect that something isn't right."

Kids and mother on opposite sides generally makes for a disturbing viewing experience. The kids really acted well and so did Naomi Watts. I have not seen the original Austrian version and in hindsight i should have seen that first.

Overall, nothing untowardly creepy and weird.

Justifies the 5.6 rating on imdb.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I watched a movie called Locked In yesterday night on local cable. It's a crime thriller about a Mother who works at a storage facility and her teenage daughter. The plot was predictably good but the presentation could have been better. Since I didn't get bored, I would rate it 3.5 stars.

Bullet Train: (Prime Rs.199)

Had no expectations and remember watching the trailer and thinking it's going to be a silly movie.

Turns out, i was right but in a good way It was one heck of a movie and had a good time watching it.

Nothing serious, just nonsense action/comedy fun. Some of the fight scenes reminded me of Jackie Chan.

Solid rating on imdb but critics were panning it. Go figure.

The Perfumier: Netflix

Don't waste your time on it. They reference the original Perfume but its no match. If you still want to watch it, go for a 5 minute recap available on YouTube.

Rating: 0/5

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Last Seen Alive

OTT : Netflix

I am a huge fan of mystery & thriller movies (lost interest in action some years ago). This movie has all these components.

Also, primary reason to watch this one was because of Gerald Butler- I'm a fan of his movies (Does anyone remember his famous kick- "This is SPARTA" ) and I like his strong personality and he somehow emits brute power and force in most of his movies which I like.

Story is about his wife disappearing from what appears to be a normal pitstop at a gas station while he is on his way to drop her to his parent's home.

What ensues is rest of the movie. It's not as good as promo or storyline depicts but, it's a one-time watch purely if you are a fan of GB.

3/5

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Bullet Train: 3 / 5

Such a promising storyline and supported by pretty good acting by Brad Pitt and several of the secondary set of actors, the movie gets let down in the final 30 mins as the movie script goes from a very promising storyline with loads of interesting possibilities to utter crap in the end. One feels extremely bad for the sad role given to Michael Shannon in the end after building it up through-out the movie. And that unfortunately is the problem of the movie; the non-villainous villain.

Bandit: 3 / 5

A supposedly true story of a US-Canadian robber (known as The Flying Bandit) - this turned out to be decently interesting. Mel Gibson plays a secondary role and keeps his charisma on a toned-down level, allowing the focus on the main leads of the movie - both decent actors but not really have had that much success except a few hit movies (Josh Duhamel - Transformers, Elisha Cuthbert - The Girl Next Door). The story is crisp and fast moving and keeps you entertained over the entire 2 hours. Only down point? It's a simple (off-repeated) story of a robber who successfully robbed many banks (59 actually!!) and finally gets caught in the end.

Watch both movies if you have the time to spare (and money of course).

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Bullet Train— Rented it on bookmystream.

Very well shot, funny through and through. The film making seems to have been inspired by Guy Ritchie and Tarantino, so not bad that way. But the biggest mistake they made was to keep this movie rather long! For this kind of a plot, 2 hours is way too long! The movie should have been less than 90-100 minutes, but it just went on and on! Look out for a cameo by Sandra Bullock and an uncredited appearance by Ryan Reynolds.

Overall, its not bad, I didn’t mind renting it for Rs.269/, but do watch the trailer, understand the whole tone of the film before watching it.

Exactly what I thought. Seemed like they wanted it to hit that tone (/genre).

I feel there's deleted scenes / script that involved him & Michael Shannon that got removed out of the movie. We'll never know.
