I had shortlisted and was planning to rent over the weekend until I see it pop up on Netflix. Watched it and loved it. A dark action comedy which reminds of Deadpool - similar satire, sarcasm and action (but no sexual references). Never imagined that an action movie could be so much fun! If I had to nitpick, I will say that the penultimate sequence of revenge brought in some seriousness against the fun theme prevailing throughout.

PS: Fight scenes are gory, not for children's consumption.

I loved the movie. I will most probably watch it again sometime.

Coincidence. I was watching it again today and realized that each scene/minute detail is beautifully woven into the story. Being a quick paced movie, I barely took note of it yesterday. Watching it again, I could appreciate the finer details and of course, the overall theme of poetic justice.

Typical bank robbery themed movie based on a true story. Sort of a "Catch me if you can" style. Does make you wonder was it so easy to rob a bank.

It was a decent watch.

Rating - 3.5/5 (Watched on a "dont know whether it's a legal" streaming platform)

Barbarian - 2022

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-screenshot-20221110-2.54.14-pm.png

It started off well, with tensions building up with couple of decent scares and then it drop dead. The second half was pretty boring with a storyline that doesn't make sense, cops who are least bothered and a really brave girl. Some scenes does remind you of 'The Nun'.

Rating - 1/5 (For the 1-2 scares)
Available on Hotstar

Watched this movie a few months ago when we were on a family movie spree. Good movie but one thing that I starkly noticed was how vivid (over processed) colors and lighting are in the whole movie. Every scene is extremely vibrant, sunny and colorful. Not a bad thing per se but it felt fantastical.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: 4 / 5

Absolutely brilliant. How do you come back from the situation that your lead actor on whom the last movie was completely based is no longer there? Wakanda Forever deals with it succulently in the first 5 minutes and then weaves the fact nicely throughout the movie.

The crowd in the theatre went bat-shit crazy when one of the 'lost' characters from the Marvel universe does a cameo (even if for only a short period).

Only grouse? The villain was a bit mellowed down. Plus the movie drags a bit in the second half. But these are minor - the movie is definitely worth a watch in the theatre.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: 4/5

Good storyline, great screenplay supported by good acting and really good backround music. Would definetly recommend watching it on the big screen just for the uninterupted experience. Movie could have been crisper but on the whole not much to crib about.
Do note that this is a very un-marvel like marvel movie, where the focus is on bringing out different facets of the charecters.

Smile: 3.5 / 5

There are the usual run of the mill horror movies that focus on exorcisms & stuff or be have a lot of sudden movements / sudden noises based horror scenes to scare the audience. Pick any 10 horror movies and 9 out of 10 would generally fall into those sorts.

And then there are horror movies that operate at a different level. 'It Follows' was one such movie. Smile is another such movie where the horror "smiles" at you in a creepy manner. Pretty well done and definitely worth a watch.

Ruins (2008) - Netflix 3.5/5

Just now finished watching this horror / survival movie.

It's one of the good old gory horror survival thriller kind of movie which will keep you on the edge of the seat and make your skin crawl with gore.
Good performance by the cast and good graphic effects. The best part is thet, it's not annoyingly dark where we wonder what's happening on screen. Also not slow paced too.

You can watch this, if you have not watched yet.

Use JustWatch.com to find whatever you're looking for, and also random searches (e.g. popular shows today, trending etc.). I use it to find hot & happening stuff for all platforms.

Marksman

Streaming: Amazon prime

Watched this 2021 movie since it had my favourite Liam Neeson, the movie disappointed me. The story is usual, Liam looks more old, tired and weary not the one from Taken franchisee. There aren't any action scenes worth mentioning. The end was even more boring. Avoid.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Stand by me (1986):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092005/

"After the death of one of his friends, a writer recounts a childhood journey with his friends to find the body of a missing boy."

Such a simple summary but it's a lovely movie based on Stephen King's story called "The Body".

Harks back to times when things were simple and life was just about living.

It's on netflix and fully justifies the 8.1/10 rating by over 4,00,000 people on imdb.

Yes, that last sentence was just heart touching. In hindsight, it was a movie about nothing actually but it was a movie about almost everything and therein i feel lies the magic
