Taking a wild guess here. It might be an issue related to your phone's web browser. Try logging in from a different browser and check if the issue still persists.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Situation :
- The news section at the bottom of the forum pages takes us to the default news which loses the theme.
I use BHP-Black so this change appears as a flash of white and particularly irritating during night.

- The "View Forum Discussion" button, on mobile is placed at the bottom of the page. This makes the above mentioned situation even more irritating to scroll down and switch to forum view ASAP.

Request :
1. Is it possible to open the related forum discussion of any news if a member is logged in ?
Can this be exposed in a setting ?

2. If it clutters the view and doesn't affect most members at least can we have the "View Forum Discussion" at the top of page like the desktop site ?

Suggestion :
Can we have a Minilogs section ?
I can't recall how many travelogues I wanted to read in full but couldn't find time

This thread (Minilogs: The lost and rediscovered village of Hosagunda) seems like an excellent idea, IMHO.

View Forum Button at the top of a news item

I opened tbe thread to make a suggestion, and realized it has already been made before:

I would like if the button is at the top in the mobile skin too as I prefer reading the posts directly on the forum. Currently I have to first scroll through the news which transcribes the posts to get to the button which is not the case on the desktop skin.

Another workaround could be if for those who are logged in, clicking on the news link directly takes you to the thread.
It is needlessly bothersome to scroll down each time. Many, I suppose, would simply want to read the thread, than read a part of it as a write up, and then re-read it on the thread. A button on top of the write up would work for both - those who want to glance at the write up and those who simply want to head for the thread.

Please make this change

I really wish Team BHP goes back to the old format of reviews. In my opinion, I don't think matching the embargo deadline is as important as the highly detailed reviews we used to get. I realize there was a lot more work that went into those older format reviews but is it a manpower issue we are facing that resulted in this new style?

The new reviews honestly do not cover the car in sufficient depth and are now similar to many mainstream reviews.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Switching to short version of reviews is moderators' call & I would not want to go into a debate on it. However I feel it is fine if Team BHP review goes live say 1 week or 10 days after the embargo ends, if it has USP of more details.

Secondly, I feel "What we like" and "What we don't like" sections are a MUST HAVE even in the short reviews.

On second thoughts I found the Baleno review missing in details like how improved is the AMT with respect to older 1.2L + AMT combos of Maruti, effectiveness of hill hold feature. A few words on how performance of the dualjet engine compares with old engine in Baleno would have added value. Sound quality also could be given more weightage. There is just a reference to it being better than old Baleno.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Have we explored the feasibility of galleries in forum posts, especially when there are a lot of images, like the ones in car reviews?

We can have one photo (thumbnail/ main image) for the gallery, which is a link that opens a gallery page containing that and other images with captions etc. Similar to Cleartrip Hotel Booking pages, but that is a popup; here, we can do with another page.

Another option is to have a gallery view of the entire thread, containing all images across posts.

It could improve readability a lot, because without it
1. needs too much scrolling
2. chances of missing an image is higher, once we upshift the scrolling gear.

We should still be able to utilise search by text, if the image captions are considered part of the the thread text that is indexed. Though one issue might be basic browser search (i.e. Ctrl+F) as the gallery would be another page.

Saw the changes for aforementioned requests, I am happy
Makes browsing on phone so much more easier.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Can we please have select the text and quote only that part as an addon here? Because we aren't allowed to quote whole posts and it takes a lot of time to edit long posts on mobile sometimes.

.
This is a great idea. May be the forum software is currently preventing something like this. Right now if there are many high res images one after another, scrolling speed takes a toll.

Second issue is if you click on the thread it loads the text first and you can reach end of the page even BEFORE the images are loaded. And all hell breaks loose once the images start loading - you are pushed towards the top in steps as images load one by one.

Exactly.
Irritating as hell when you land at a precise section of the review quickly after opening the page and then you keep scrolling forever

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

In very long threads like the ones that run hundreds of pages, many impactful posts get lost in crowd. From a reader's perspective, it is practically impossible to scan through all pages and read the best content.

I think some sort of a sorting mechanism within a thread would be useful. At a single click if we can see most useful posts at the top of a thread it would save big time for readers.

Pinned comments like on IG. Good idea.
Right now you can do one thing - usually posts with high count of thanks are good/useful and you may just glance at the page to find such posts. Not the most elegant solution but works in a pinch.

Truth be told though, it's a problem on every forum or at least the ones I frequent. As threads get old and long the only way to extract information is to do Google search with right keywords and site name. Very high success rate too. But there are days when I have time and I toil thru pages, that's a lot of fun too

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Thanks button should be abolished. It has now become "I agree" button. This creates an echo chamber. No, I am not suggesting any down vote button either to counter it. This will create even a bigger echo chamber.

Inadvertently just did that, apologies and I agree

On the topic I have mixed feelings. Initially I thought of it more as a "like" button which I am not a fan of but IMO it provides an easy way to add weight to a post without repeating and risking infractions.

Is it needed I wasn't sure but our latest filters of "top thanked" definitely aid views and reach.

Is it overused/abused ? Absolutely (me included) and sometimes accidentally while scrolling on mobile.

Would I want it removed ? I don't think so but I am relatively new to the forum.

Would I prefer it was named something else ? Maybe as deemed fit by members and mods.

Thanks button should not be abolished: It is supposed to be an "agree" button as well as a like/appreciate/enjoy button. So much better than a series of "+1" or "I agree" posts, which are, anyway, not permitted on this forum.

So much better than longer posts expressing agreement by saying the same thing. That is an echo chamber.
