Pathan is a bowler. But can he beat Ishant Sharma/Zaheer for the bowling job? No.
Pathan can bat. But can he beat Laxman/Yuvraj to the batting job? No.

Pathan at best is a support bowler and a support batsmen. So when the team needs support, he will be summoned .
Any all rounder must be very good either bowling of batting.

3rd Test:
Ganguly mistook K of Kanpur to K of Kolkatta and batted like "The prince of dirt track". His valuable score gives India the edge and they win

SA felt like 'Home' on the 2nd test pitch. Only if IND had felt like 'Home' on that pitch

Same like how Sehwag is there in team. Except for his triple hundred and y'days wickets, his performance in not commendable. As far as Jaffer is concerned, he may be dropped in next series and Gambhir may get a look in as a opener (my opinion).

Sehwag is No 1 Test batsman. Could you explain when his performance wasn't good?
Before you jump in, he was dropped from test team for his poor performance in ODIs . His test record is impeccable.

Unfortunately that has been the norm followed by board where something other than cricketing abilities also does matter.

Sehwag is a hit or miss player. He can win you test matches single handedly or be frustratingly inconsistent. Thats just how he plays. Something told me he would attempt a 3rd consecutive six off Paul Harris (and get out trying), almost as if he wanted to fetch the 60 runs all in sixes! Thats Sehwag for you.

Gambhir or Aakash Chopra might be back in the Test scheme of things very soon, following Jaffer's dismal show.

I was there to watch it. 62 to get and SA (with 76 all out in 2nd Test still in memory) nurtured some hope. A cover drive (people were recalling when did they last see the ball race to the fence so fast), and 2 consecutive sixes off Harris (first 2 deliveries of his spell) sealed the match. Rest was formality.
Yes, Sehwag did get out attempting the 3rd consecutive six.

Now, what should we call Sehwag as? S****d. He should have stayed at wicket and finished off the match. Instead he thought every day is sunday. Any sound batsman would ahve studied the ball and then would have taken his chances. But here its the height.

BCCI bans Harbhajan for five ODIs

Harbhajan Singh, who was recently banned for 11 IPL matches for slapping Sreesanth, has been handed a five-match ODI ban from the Indian board. Harbhajan will miss India's forthcoming tri-series in Bangladesh and the start of the Asia Cup in Pakistan.

The BCCI's disciplinary committee, comprising president Sharad Pawar, president-elect Shashank Manohar, and vice-president Chirayu Amin, handed out the punishment after meeting Harbhajan in Mumbai. Sudhir Nanavati, the commissioner who submitted a 14-page report on the incident, was also present.

The committee invoked Rule 3.2.1 of the BCCI regulations and handed out the maximum punishment. "Under this provision, the maximum punishment that can be meted out to a player is 'a ban up to a maximum of 5 ODIs and / or 3 Test matches'," a release from the board said.

"The Committee accordingly decided to ban Harbhajan Singh for five one-day internationals, starting today (14th May 2008), and further observed that any further instance of misconduct will invoke a life-ban."

By the way, have you guys seen how Sreeshanth has really sobered up of late? A month ago, the Misbah hit-wicket would have had him sticking his tongue out, doing cartwheels & generally ranting but he was so-so sober. Good for him (and all of us) if he's treading cautiously.

This explains it. Along with the behavior, his bowling has improved too.
