Re: The Cricket Thread

India's day today. Got 5 wickets and in return gave only 2. Rain Perera for the first time is proving his friendship with India.

Also, obligatory, what a ridiculous shot to get out by Rohit. Would have been in such solid position if only 1 wicket was down.

Need Puji to bat for another 200 balls tomorrow.

Re: The Cricket Thread

We desparately need someone like a Virat / KL / Mayank Agarwal / Shikhar Dhawan / Shreyas Iyer / The guy with the 303 Mustang to be slotted between the 2 Slow Coaches (Rahane & Pujara).

At the the rate these 2 play, it will be day 4 before we even cross 250.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I wish Rohit had shown some restraint. But then, if that ball has connected for a 6, we would be appreciating him for taking on Lyon.

I’m somehow confident that we as a team will bat through the entire day tomorrow.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Looks messy now. Good thing is both Agarwal & Pant are hungry for runs. I hope they can set up a big platform.

India should at least get close to 300. Draw looks like a possibility if we have no play on Day 4 due to a storm.

Honestly, careless shot when the fielders were on the boundary.

Nobody would have cared if he got out in this manner when he was on 144, but certainly not on 44. His role isn’t like Sehwag or Pant. India expect him to translate white ball success and score big centuries.

Wow. God Hazelwood is such an outstanding bowler. Hope Pant+Sundar+Shardul to put up a 75-100 run stand.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Great rearguard action with a record 7th wicket partnership between Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar takes us to a better situation, I just hope we can restrict Australia to a 50-75 run lead.

If Australia end up with a lead closer to 100, this may may be heading towards a situation similar to the third test and then saving the match with a great 4th inning will not be easy.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So, this is how it feels to be on the other side of a lower order rearguard action
It's a new, unfamiliar feeling

Re: The Cricket Thread

And this rear guard action is worth over a hundred. Wow! Both of them getting their 50’s. Credible grit and determination. They are batting as if they never looked out of place.

Simply outstanding here by the two who are batting for their first times in a test match. The lead is less than a 100 now.

96 overs done in this innings. You can see the Aussie fast bowlers very tired. They somehow want to close the innings and are leaking runs.

With the mindset of the bowlers thus, I’m wondering if the tail can wag a few more and get the deficit to a less than 30.

Re: The Cricket Thread

50 worth in gold by both, beautiful batting by thakur and washington.

100+ run partnership, played more then a session between them, maybe this will be the partnership which will help us draw and retain this series.

This series truly belongs to our bowlers.

A stat: Thakur's fifty is the first by a batsman at No. 8 or lower in a Test at the Gabba in more than 20 years

When Sam Curran or a Philander was found doing exactly this to us, it was terribly frustrating and they used to change the outcome of the match. This feeling is terrific, from the other side.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Both Sundar & Shardul are making a strong case for themselves in this match. And what’s more heartening is all their shots are proper cricketing shots which you see No.3,4 batsmen play. These two have always shown batting potential in the IPLs but there its kinda bang bang. Watching them bat in this match is pure gold.

Aussies wouldn’t have imagined after having 6 wickets for under 180, the ghost of last match will come back to haunt them. This time even better with run rate being superb. Starc and Cummins look all exhausted

P.S: Shardul departs after a valiant innings. Well played young man. Hope you show this sharpness in bowling now.

Another 11 overs to go. Can the tail play it out and produce another frustrating partnership for Aussies?

Re: The Cricket Thread

A partnership of 123 is broken. :( This is great stuff of Shardul Thakur & Washington Sundar. I guess Pujara & other batsmen have tired out the bowlers quite a bit.

If there's one word to describe this team, it is "resilience." The Indian Test side (with the abilities of Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman on the wane) got a proper drubbing under Dhoni when they toured England & Australia in 2011-12. Along with a weak bowling attack, they were absolutely spineless.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is a rare display of Steele by the Indian lower order batting and I hope it produces few more runs and maybe end with < 50 run lead for Australia (almost there, lead is exactly 50 now!).

Happy to see this unexpected batting display and hopefully this will silence the loud mouth Paine and his team. Paine again has dropped 3 catches

The fact that four Australian bowlers have played non stop has been great for us, they are all four super match fit, but there is only so much the body can take. In our case injuries kept forcing us to change bowlers, and that helped by having few fresh legs.

What a side this has been, they will always be remembered as one of the best team to tour Australia, even if we lose this match. So much respect earned. If not for that one disastrous session, we have fought tooth and nail every session.

Rohit should take tips from them on how to change gears between IPL and tests.

Their display is all the more appreciable since it's their first match on this tour and many top order batsmen struggle to adjust at the Gabba.

Ashwin may have something to say to Paine after this display.
