Hello,

Here are the details of the Aarey Road Reconstruction:

- Aarey road to be upgraded at a cost of Rs. 135 crores using BOT (Built Operate Tranafer) model
- Road Contractor will recover the cost within 16 year, 3 months & 20 days (how can they calculate so precisely?)
- The work will be complete within 18 months
- Tow lanes will be concretized & asphalt will be laid on third lane.
- The amount of Toll for different types of vehicles is not yet decided.
- PWD has finally accepted that the road is not motorable in this current state.

Full article here: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...w/19314239.cms

The most important point, it is not clear whether the road will be closed during these 18 months? The currently the road is just a two laned road & I feel they will have to completely stop vehicular movements during reconstruction.

Thanks,

Do you think they will stop vehicular movement. No ways. It gets in so much moolah that they won't do anything like that. I just hope they lay fresh tar and make the road motorable. I then won't mind paying the toll.

But if they start some new gimmick and increase the toll then Jvlr it would be for me.

Frankly, it makes little difference. The traffic build up is much more before this place, starting from the right turn on EEH. For the last one month or so, I've been driving in 1st (or sometime 2nd) gear from EEH till Saffron Spice. So, the bottleneck is not really this hotel. The authorities should engage REAL EXPERTS to find out the problem and suggest solution.

The traffic was particularly bad today. My drive from home to office, which takes about 35-40 minutes too 1 hour 5 minutes today. There were traffic buildups all along. Buses and cars stopping at the start of flyovers to drop/pickup passengers should be mercilessly penalized. They hold up traffic. Also, noticed too many trucks on streets, a lot of them stopped by police after the right turn into JVLR.

The hotel was a fly in the ointment when the service road was being constructed. Till now the buses and private vehicles used to turn into the main JVLR forcing the traffic build up at the IIT market gate signal and subsequently after that too.

With the hotel gone atleast the service road will be completed and the spillage of vehicles on JVLR would be lesser. Agree that the authorities should rethink on the traffic congestion but then thats BMC. You dont expect some technological marvels to reduce the traffic from BMC.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

I had been to Vikhroli yesterday and noticed LBS Marg dug up for replacing water pipeline. About half a km is dug up starting from a little before station road and will go all way up to Gandhi Nagar. We are now in April and digging has just started, expect the work to go on for at least 6 months. Get ready for Nightmare on LBS Street, particularly during Monsoon!

Re: Mumbai Traffic

The authorities have started relaying the WEH near Malad pathanwadi flyover and Kandivali Saidham (thakur complex). But as usual the quailty of recarpetting is hoorendous to say the least.

Good thing is that they are removing those stupid paver blocks. But as you said quaility of recarpetting is poor and I think couple of showers in the month of June would be enough to wash that out.

Hello Dieseltuned & Abhijitvp,

I believe you have passed through Aarey Flyover after upper layer relaying & the work is very well done. The road surface on Aarey Fly-Over is really very smooth.

I believe the work is still going on WEH between Malad & Kandivali & this time around the authorities seem to be doing a good job. Just wait for few days & you will see a good road on this stretch.

But, I cannot comment on state of these roads after monsoon sets in. Because based on past experience, pot holes will definitely emerge. Afterall unless pot holes do not emerge after regular intervals (read - every year), how will multi-million road repair contracts will be approved every year.

Hello All,

Authorities have now stopped using Paver Blocks on road repair / new roads. These blocks will now will only be used on footpaths.
It seems strange to know that once upon a time first choice for corporators for quick repair of roads were Paver Blocks which are out of demand now. Just for sake of information these Blocks are very costly (as compared to Tar & Concrete Roads) & original plan was to used them only on side roads (between Contrete road & footpath) & on footpaths. But over the time, authorities started to use these blocks on entire roads & junctions.

Thanks,

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Hello Jignesh,

The aarey flyover on WEH was redone recently and there are loads of things that our authorities need to learn.
some pointers :

1. They have painted the white marker lines only on the sides of the road.
2. no lane markings on the new surface

Regards
Dieseltuned

951 fleet cabs to be added on Mumbai roads

Tabcabs is expanding by adding 951 cabs in its fleet which makes it largest fleet cab service provider surpassing Meru. Tabcabs will now officially have 2800 cabs plying on the Mumbai roads. Add other fleet cab numbers and the total serviced cabs on Mumbai road reach 6000.
Fleet Comparison
* Meru Cabs: 2,050
* TabCab: 1,849 (will grow to 2,800)
* Easy Cabs: 800
* Mega Cabs: 250
* Others (Viira, Priyadarshini): 100 (approx)

Re: Mumbai Traffic

In my personal opinion and driving experience, The TAB cab has the worst drivers I have come across out of all these fleet cabs. Some things these TAB guys always do are:

1. Excessive persistent honking
2. lane cutting without any signs
3. tailgatting (specially with smaller cars like Wagy,Alto, Eon) etc.

Just from my personal experience on the WEH

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Heavy traffic jam today morning on the Ghodbunder Road near Kapurbawdi due to the drilling setup for the flyover pillar. Saw a Dzire's front bumper smashed by a private bus in an attempt to wriggle out of the jam. This further worsened the traffic.

Wrote a mail to Traffic commissioner Mumbai regarding the multiple lane formation at the signal turning to Powai on Eastern express highway and got a prompt reply/error
"The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

transportcommissioner@trafficpolicemumbai.org
Error Type: SMTP
Error Description: Inbox is full
Additional information: The recipients inbox is full."

Who says the Traffic commissioner regulalry monitors the commuters mails.

Agree mate! Exiting Thane has become a pain now.
First it is the Kapurbawdi junction (We avoid that by taking Kolshet road> Big Bazar route),
then it is kopri bridge beginning from teen haat naka flyover onward (Today it was horrible), then the bottleneck before toll plaza.
You do all this and straighten your back a bit and the right turning traffic at Kanjur marg awaits you.

I sometimes wonder, is it only the sheer no. of increased cars on the road or something else? For eg: Nothing has changed at the right turn at kanjur marg in terms of infrastructure, but the traffic snarls keep getting longer with the day.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Just want to give a heads-up to anyone who uses the Vashi bridge for daily commutes or weekend trips outside Mumbai. It is being closed fully on the side towards Vashi, and partially towards Mumbai. This will happen till the middle of next week. Traffic towards Vashi will be directed on the old bridge which frankly cannot cope up with the volume. Take a detour via Airoli instead.
