Thanks for the link. I now understood there are LHS and RHS U girders between two piers. Which makes it two U girders.

I always thought there was one single U girder, accommodating two pairs of metro rails.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I'm staying in North Bangalore, Vidyaranyapura. I'm looking for a place which can fix my tyre puncture with a Mushroom type plug. There is a large puncture which is currently fixed with 2 regular puncture strips and there is still some air leak. I know Madhu's has them, but I'm unable to find any locally. Malleshwaram, Yeshwanthpur, Mathikere, Yelahanka, Hebbal, etc.

Mods Please move to appropriate thread if OT.

The puncture shop on the left when driving from RMZ Galleria Mall Signal towards Allansandra ROB (just 20 meters before HPCL) has mushroom patches. We had got a tire of a friend's Crysta fixed due to side by side puncture here.

Have seen this while driving in New York city too. The solution is to start your windshield wiper as soon as you spot them or they try to clean, thereby they are not able to provide their "forced services". Atleast in NYC when they see wiper blades starting, they used to have the courtesy to leave us alone and look for another car. Not sure if this will work here but you can try.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

We all used to ponder, how to make a difference in a system which is so much screwed up. Now we can see for ourselves how one individual can make difference in the lives of lakhs of people by resorting to basics. Special Commissioner (Traffic) Dr M A Saleem is that person and any one who travel on hell on earth corridors like ORR can realize what has changed. The places are swarming with traffic police personnel and traffic wardens. All one way violators and parking violators are dealt with on spot. Roads have been patched up and this is the result.
Travel time drops at Bengaluru traffic hotspots by half

We all know this wont last and things will be back to square one soon. But here is the lesson.

Now if a traffic commissioner can make such a difference with no extra funds spent, imagine what a CM or Minister or even a MLA can do for their constituents, if they really care about such issues, stick to basics and apply some logical thoughts.

Absolutely. This kind of gets me even more bent out of shape. All this time, we have been suffering just because we have people not doing their job. Meaning that it was on purpose.
Simply by forcing people to follow traffic rules and patching up certain parts of the road, the ride from hell has seen massive improvements.

Another lesson I can probably think of is that all MLAs, MPs etc only care about TenderSuring the roads and building bridges on junctions to give a "solution" for the traffic mess. No guesses as to what the reason is

However, kudos to the the new commissioner for taking this up and making our lives easier. Fingers crossed to see how long it lasts! Elections are due in a few months. So a good time to compare would probably be sometime June 2023.

While there is no denying that politicians have different priorities, we need to step back and reflect on how much of this mess was due to people, not following rules. And this is what differentiates us from other nations. We as a whole lack basic civic sense. If only everyone followed rules and displayed courtesy to fellow road users.

Absolutely, we as car owners can also do a lot. The cops should man the main roads and continue to have zero-tolerance for vehicles parking and blocking traffic. We can ensure that we don't park our private vehicles in a way that blocks traffic in our residential roads too. And in front of shops, restaurants. (A bit of this sort of zero-tolerance enforcement by the cops in these areas will also help.)

Either way, credit to MA Saleem, he certainly seems to have made a difference.

That was the how it was previously. Now it seems like they are using different sections/column and girders. Even the side walls are now integrated and built with the girders. They used to be mounted separately before.

Those older ones were called "segmental girders". Slower construction process, but needed due to Blores narrow roads in those phases.

ORR Metro uses UGirders. Wider ORR for much of its length is allowing for this (except at split flyovers)

Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kanpur, etc used UGirders for all their phases bcoz they have much wider roads.

Blore and Pune used UGirders only for their most recent phase.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Wish they can plan a peripheral Metro now. NICE road which is part of peripheral road already has current metro reaching it at Mysuru and Tumkur roads.

NICE has planned to build commercial/business parks as part of its original plan of BMIC. That along with Bidadi areas should bring more business to the South of the city since East and North are saturated with no major roads other than ORR and Airport road

While this would bring business to the said south and west of the city, do you think its really a good idea to repeat the mistake that was done with ORR? I think any development should be done away from the PRR and the proposed Ring road to feed these places which should be developed further outside of these boundaries.

What a refreshing post! A glimmer of light in pitch darkness.
I pray Mr Saleem succeeds in his endeavours. And hope that this makes our lives easy as common tax paying office commuting people.

They've already become aggressive. Go to Anil Kumble Circle via M G Road, you'll experience.

This is what happens on a daily routine. We add windshield washer to the Tank to clean the dirt accumulated while parking on road side, use Windshield cleaner spray, microfibre cloth to keep the glass free of spots and these beggar's ruin and spoil all our efforts by using the same sponge used on 100 other cars.
