I had offered my car for this pre-covid and my experience was good for as long as I made myself available. I uninstalled the app during Covid as I was getting too many messages PLUS, my office timing was very haphazard and those I could accommodate on the way to, I could not offer the same on the way back - I go to office generally around 10-10:30 and leave anytime after lunch because my calls go late into the night. But overall, I found it was a good way to socialise.

I used the app extensively (as a passenger) back in 2019. Over multiple drivers and a range of passengers, never experienced any problems. Everyone would be polite - even in case of delays at either end. In the other hand, some repeat passengers (with same driver) would continue conversations as if they would do with colleagues meeting after several days. Others would just put on their headphones and bury themselves in their phones or take a short nap.

No major issues so far and agree with comments from ninjatalli above. From safety/conduct angle, you have means to look at their verification status (company / government id verified), ride ratings etc which though are not fool proof still gives you some level of confidence.

Only small problem (if you want to call it a problem ) is at times you may find yourself to be driving with a co-rider in the back seat, while your front co-passenger seat is empty. Normally happens when you have two co-riders and the person on the front seat gets down first. If a person is uncomfortable with this, he/she can always accept co-riders taking into consideration their pick up and drop points to minimize this probability.

Is this still a big thing for many people? I always used to find this funny with a couple of my friends who would get very agitated when this happened. They would insist on the person in the back seat getting up and coming to the front, even for a short distance. Another thing I used to find funny was in mixed groups, it was 'expected' for the men passengers to take the front seat and the women in the back. But I assume now that the majority of people don't care about such things anymore.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Had a torrid time today approaching Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) from the north via Kalyannagar ORR. The last 2 km took an easy 30 minutes, and kept us on tenterhooks whether people will make their train or not.

Nice station per se but terrible access through the Chikka Banaswadi flyover.

I remember a lady friend of mine saying that she gets hit on by the drivers and she stopped using the app.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable offering a ride. Even with friends and colleagues, there are some who refuse to wear seatbelts and don't want to get into an awkward situation with a stranger who refuses to do so.

Hygiene, Rules, Etiquette, Manners, Politeness, Phone Manners, Care for the car. All seriously lacking in those taking rides and in some of those giving rides. I won’t use this service nor offer it to anyone else.

I used Quickride often in 2019-2020 (pre-covid) primarily to reduce the guilt of driving an Innova with a single occupant.

Most of my co-passengers would be college kids (NIFT) who would be doing internship at an office near my work place. I would typically not converse with them - most would be busy talking between themselves (and on topics way out of place for me). Biggest problem for me would be punctuality - no one would be on time and there have been times when they tried to bargain on the cost sharing (I would hardly charge anything - common across all QR car pool drivers). There would be 1-2 regular non-college IT professionals, who I would look forward to, as they would be on time and I could have some decent meaningful conversations.

But me offering QR would be a topic of many a conversations. Amazing how people have perceptions when you offer rides to college girls

One thing Im still in doubt about. What is the Insurance companies’ stand on QuickRide and all.
It can be construed that it is ‘plying for hire’ and private cars cannot do that in India.

This junction is now open on a daily basis after around 8.15 AM.

The cascading effect on ORR is visible. There is a traffic signal also which is manually operated and during one instance just 2 vehicles were allowed to pass and then signal turned red again. It all depends on the traffic density on HAL road.

Also BMTC and private bus parking right in the middle of the road just before the Marathahalli bridge only adds to the pain

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I moved to BLR last year after a gap of 27 years and most of the main roads look vastly different. One thing I noticed last weekend though was that Chord Road past ISKCON all the way till the BLR-MYS expressway is a total mess.

Never noticed it earlier because of the slow moving traffic but I did it both ways past midnight and it was hugely disconcerting. So many undulations, unmarked speedbreakers of varying heights and shapes at random places, that at even 50 kmph it was taxing. The junctions with other roads were also a mess with a couple of vehicles just rushing across without even looking.

Also think that zebra crossings and speedbreakers have to be marked differently and distinctly. Ended up slowing down where there was none and then abruptly braking to find one lurking in the shadows.

Having worked on highways, these roads are fit only to be crawled upon. And, I'm not even mentioning potholes here.

I have seen the front passengers keep their bag on their lap, and read a book or do something with their hands that block the left OVRM. Worse is my uncle who likes to read newspapers while seated there and blocks the left window view too. Extremely frustrating during the left lane changes and turning right at T-junctions. I feel the front passenger seat being empty is a bonus.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

last couple of days I have been going to office from Hennur side to ITPL Main road via ORR. I find that invariably, the section near Hormavu - Ramurthy Nagar is congested, whatever time of day. There are other sections which have metro work going on but not as much congestion as this section.
This morning, I sailed through - yes, sailed through from Hennur side on ORR till Visa/Samsung office complex on ORR - taking nothing more than 40 mins. I was extremely surprised. The return was a different story though. 9 mins delay from under the KR Puram metro station till Ramurthy Nagar section. I knew the morning commute was a mirage

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I have had the bad luck of driving through Hebbal to reach Malleshwaram these past two months. I absolutely loathe the drive and wonder how it just gets worse every single day. Out of my 45-50 min commute, a good 20-25mins is spent trying to get through the flyover towards Hebbal Police Station.

I'm glad I do not have to travel that side anymore! It was probably the worst part of my entire day.
