Re: Kaas and Bamnoli: Sep 2011 Team-BHP Meet

Guys,
A quick update from our t-bhpian humyum who visited KAAS last Saturday:
1. They dont allow vehicles to be parked on the plateau. There are forest guards all around. We can drop our family members on the plateau and then have to drive approx half a Km downhill on the other side where car parking is allowed.
2. Flowers were blooming in good numbers last weekend, hence should be good this weekend too.
3. Also there was lots of rain last weekend. Hence as AP mentioned, be rain ready. If travelling with kids, I would suggest that we carry raincoats for them as it would be quite windy on the plateau.

Cheers

Re: Kaas and Bamnoli: Sep 2011 Team-BHP Meet

Guys, unfortunately I am moving to tentative now.

Some work has cropped up for tomorrow morning that I cannot postpone. I need to be in Pune till noon. I would still like to make it directly to Kaas, so I will do my best to be there by about 230pm.
Either way, I will call either Monaro or AP bhau.

Edit: what time are you guys meeting tomorrow morning at Chandni chowk?

Re: Kaas and Bamnoli: Sep 2011 Team-BHP Meet

Enjoy the trip and do post photos. My last year's trip was awesome (Kaas Plateau – Maharashtra’s Valley of flowers). I plan to go there next weekend. Judging by the number of people searching for "kaas plateau", there should be a huge crowd there.
Once you finish with the flowers, there are lot of other things to do around there
- Thoseghar waterfall and Chalkewadi Windmills
- Drive from Bamnoli to Tapola - around 35-40 kms(bit of offroading, but the path is clearly visible on Google earth)
- Route from Satara to Mahabaleshwar through Medha. The route where i saw the most number of waterfalls. A road almost similar in quality as the one to lavasa.
- Kaas mahabaleshwar route (off-road) more of a path than a road, but a beautiful drive.

Enjoy and do share photos.

1] bamnoli to tapola-though the path is visible on google earth, i am not sure about this road and its condition.
2] kaas-mahabaleshwar, again if there any road exists, it will be best for offroading.

I will check the status of these two roads tomorrow.

About roads in this area,
there is a road from chalkewadi to patan, though this is shortest route of just 20 km on plateau, time taken to cross this road is not less than 2hours.

Re: Kaas and Bamnoli: Sep 2011 Team-BHP Meet

Latest pic from satellite shows that cloud cover over satara is reduced and will reduce tomorrow also.
It means we can expect sunny day at satara and somehwat cloudy at kaas and bamnoli with no heavy rain.

No response from the pune folks. Looks like everybody wants to meetup directly at Hotel Mahendra, Satara.

Will start from home to leave for Kaas tomorrow morning.

Re: Kaas and Bamnoli: Sep 2011 Team-BHP Meet

I tried my best to find you guys, but could not. I had a weird trip today, I spotted only one white Punto with LTD sticker (regn KA53) parked at one of the lots. We tried to get up to the top plateau but traffic was totally jammed and it started pouring buckets.

Tried calling AP and Monaro but could get through only after i reached Satara and was on my way back. I hope for better adherence to timelines next time.

Now bring on the pics to rub it in
