Hi Zappo, I am too facing this problem, For the first service it was not a problem because I did almost coast 2 coast in the first week itself. I did almost from Hyderabad-Hubli-Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Kakinada which was around 2500 KMs and at the end of third month it was 5200 KMs. But the second service which is due next week, I had done only 6800 KM and I might fell short by almost 3000 KMs. I think we are clocking the lowest in Hyderabad, when I went for a running service during last month, the XUV that have come for service, all of them have nearly completed more than 20K in last 4-6 months time span. When I asked the RM he said I think everybody was doing almost 3K to 4K average monthly. He cited one instance where one gentlemen was doing Hyderabad-Bangalore every other week in his XUV.

I think M&M expects us to go out of town every weekend and come up with a story :-). But I think the service interval is normal for this kind of car. I guess once you cross 10K on your clock then it would be 20KM or 2 years and 30K or 3 years which is evenly spaced and you should be able to do that without any issues.

With the current rate, I think the 3rd year extended warranty becomes even more critical now if we are not able to clock those many KM as I understand it is 3 years and unlimited KMs, whichever is earlier.

Planning to take the XUV initially out of town during Dussera vacation to complete few KMs.

Though I m not an XUV owner, let me tell you that the 5000kms service interval by M&M, also, advocated for the Scorpio, is a farce.
It is just one more way of making more money from the service by way of a general inspection and check.

To me, it would be best to avoid this service completely.

I just took test drive of my friend's brand new XUV - delivered only last week.

1. The gear shift from neutral to 1st was butter smooth. However shifting back to lower gears required much more stenghth - however not at all bad. I have seen worse in Scorpio and even some Hyundai cars

2. Significant engine noise in lower gears

3. there was noticable engine vibration at higer RMP and at lower gears

4. Brake was pathetic - I had to brake well in advance to ensure that I did not collide into the vehicle in front

5. Cruise worked fantastic - so did all other electronics.

6. Doors required to slammed shut

By the way, the dealer had quoted Rs. 45,000 for insurance in W6. Wanted to know if anyone else got it cheaper?

You're right it probably is because of the angle of the windshield, but it's considerably more over the central console.

Well, my accessories guy had a solution to this.
He fitted a vinyl matte sticker strip over the shiny areas and lo behold! the reflection's almost gone! Very happy with the job.

Is that how the service schedules are? You sure about this? I thought they have a quarterly service requirement all along! Need to check this again.

Seriously. I don't know what to say. In today's day and age when manufacturers try to space out their service intervals to the longest possible (lets face it, no one really enjoys the prospect of a service-day in the garage) or others like BMW who do not have any specific service intervals etc M&M expects us to be back in the A.S.S. every 3 months.

But then, I am not sure whether skipping the scheduled service periods is a good idea since that may void one's warranty!

Here's my take on some of your points, in the same order,

2. Really? Do you get this noise even inside the vehicle? Were you by any chance in a confined space, like a tight cellar parking when you heard this noise?

3. Engine vibration! Now I am at sea really. I thought XUV is one of the best damped diesel vehicle that I have ever seen (and I have seen a few, believe me). In fact, as per my personal experience it has the lowest NVH levels that I have seen in an oil burner of this size. Very quiet and vibes free in all gears.

4. That's a "gottcha" thing that M&M built into this vehicle. Brakes help you keep your adrenaline in check. It stops eventually alright, but the action is not at all confidence inspiring.

6. Hey, thats a heavy door built with a 3-stage closing/opening feature. You do need to shut it with a heavy hand.


If you go by the dealer's quote they will milk you dry. For a W8 they had quoted me Rs.52000 as insurance. Eventually I had it for 21k roughly. Of course it had a matter of NCB transfer but even without that it was costing me 28k if I am not mistaken. Remember, I am talking of a W8. W6 should be lesser.

On other points:

2. The noise is not loud - but noticeable and on the road.

3. Engine vibrations - These are far lower that what you would expect from a scorpio or a fortuner. Nothing of the sort wherein the gear stick vibrates. However you can feel the sensation in the steering in lower gears. Goes away once you shift to higher gears.

4. Brakes - While it is really un-nerving, maybe with higher breaking force - the vehicle should stop immediately. Being a brand new car - I couldnt bring myself to do it.

Mine is with HDFC Ergo. And the policy was very craftily built to push in all sorts of discounts possible into it.

I felt that the engine noise was pretty much acceptable, more akin to a petrol sedan (I may be comparing it with my Scorpio).

This is strange, your friend should have the engine bushes looked at by the dealer, I had similar issues with my Scorpio, and got resolved after replacement of engine bushes.

4. Brake was pathetic - I had to brake well in advance to ensure that I did not collide into the vehicle in front

Brakes are something which M&M needs to look at.

5. Cruise worked fantastic - so did all other electronics.

6. Doors required to slammed shut

These are heavy doors and require a push.

I have been quoted 51,500 for W8, I have already got a quote of 35 K from Bajaj Allianz.

Nope man it just came off on its own, as per RM culprit was silencer clamp.

I am getting a quote of 38K from Bharti Axa for the W8, which i will pick up in a few days. After applying NCB, this is working out to about 29K.
btw: this is a zero dep policy. the regular comprehensive is much lower.. I would suggest you shop around for the insurance
