I have not tried a different PSI. I have not filled air since my purchase in December. I did not think PSI would impact the "thud" sound. I assumed it has something to do with suspension, anti roll bar or something more mechanical. But interesting suggestion and I am willing to give it a try.

Give it a shot, After taking delivery of my XUV i could too hear the thud sound on every pothhole, Immediately i took the car to a pump and checked the air pressure which was at 42PSI all round, Got it back to 32 and it was all good!

The same had happened while taking delivery of my Jetta, Tyre pressure was at 38PSI.

Regarding the seat belts. If you keep the front row seat belts at the top most height adjustment level, that will resolve it. The second row has clips on the sides to hold the seat belts. You can use them. They work for me. Hope they work for you too.
Thanks Ritesh. I told the service center guys regarding the instrument cluster sound, but decided against doing anything since they said they will give the car the next day only. Apparently, the noise is feeble as of now - am planning for a long drive to North East in the 4-5 weeks - hopefully the noise will be more once I complete that trip.

Let me try the seat belt workarounds today itself. Thanks for the tip.

Vivek

XUV 500 niggles and their solutions

Guys need your help on this.
My friend has a 2014 Xuv500 W6.
Today morning while slotting reverse gear the gear wouldn't slot.
He says the gears slots while the car is off. But with the engine running the gears are not slotting. Asked him if the clutch pedal is pushed back he said negative but the clutch has become hard though.

I feel his slave cylinder has gone kaput. Will Mahindra cover it under warranty?

How much has your car run? Push them for a warranty replacement anyways, Worth a shot, But it would mostly depend on how many kms your car has clocked.

Hi, ask your friend to start the car with reverse gear engaged keeping clutch pressed. May be something is stuck and will be fine with above procedure.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Hi.

So, My just over a month old XUV500 W8 Automatic has started acting up. I have three minor issues. Would like to know if they are well know problems or specific to me.

1 - My custom preset (EQ) on the audio system keeps resetting randomly. There is no specific trend to that. Sometimes it is there on the same settings I left it. And sometimes it reverts to flat.

2- This is a mechanical one I suspect. Sometimes, when accelerating, the left front wheel seems to give out these "vibrations" . It happens mostly when I am turning to the right and accelerating. It isn't much. It isn't torque steer I'm sure.

3. There seems to be this weird slight grinding sound coming from all wheels. More so the left side. It's like a "sssssssss" sound. Occur at most speeds. More audible at lower speeds . Audible with Windows rolled down only.

All there have been there since day 1. I was hoping they'll settle with time. 1700 Kms and still the exist. Now, I am concerned. Let me know if any solution for any of these is known.

This is a common issue with new age xuv w8 and w10. Unfortunately no solution yet from mahindra.

First just send the car, Let them do what they are doing on their own, Only when they would call you to give you an estimate pricing, Thats the time when you should push for warranty.

Yeah its a common issue, And really irritating specially when the speakers are really weak, The settings have to be changed every time after starting the car!

In my 2 weeks of XUV ownership, I am also facing this pulsating pull towards the left on the steering wheel while accelerating in 2nd gear on a straight line. Though haven't noticed anything like that during any turn.
Veteran XUVians please help - is this the so called Torque Steer or a wheel alignment / balancing issue? Mine is W6.

So my friend gave his XUV on Saturday. On Monday he got a call telling that the slave cylinder has failed and will be replaced under warranty however the clutch plate has worn out fully and needs to be replaced. Also he will have to bear ₹4,500 as charges for dismantling the gearbox.
My doubt is that why should he pay for opening the gearbox when the slave cylinder has failed. Also there were no tell tale signs of clutch wear and tear too.
Most importantly I was surprised that they opened the gearbox and replaced the clutch and slave cylinder within a day. That's Toyota fast. Mighty impressed !

May be I should try the Dampers Hardening for now. There is a professional in Mysore who is doing Dampers Hardening for Rally Cars. He is doing hardening for normal cars too. My friend has done it for Dzire and Scorpio (leaf spring model) and he is happy with the results ( better ride quality and comfortness on bad roads and stability on highways ) . He has also done it for his Pajero , but yet to fit it. Thinking of trying it for XUV too. Cost is much less than the springs actually.

Hi,

If you get the dampers hardened, please let us know the effects of it and how it affects the ride quality and handling.

Thanks
