Coming to the battery,
My car is running with amaron battery from 2018.
No issues with cranking, cold start, lighting etc.
The first battery(Exide) had lasted almost 5 years.

So, any idea what could have gone wrong.
Anything I should be careful of in future?
Worried a bit, since I take the car on highways with family, sometimes. Looking forward to some inputs/suggestions.

Thanks,

In my case the OEM Exide lasted 6 years, while replacement Amaron packed up after 4 years.

So it may be that the battery is on its last legs.

Usually when the active layers in the battery sheds they randomly short a cell resulting in very low voltage. A bit of shaking (car running) and the material falls down, so no short. But in the long run the battery does pack up.

Hi Aroy,
Thanks for the inputs.

But, isn't it too early for a battery to reach it's last stage?
The current battery's age is 2 years 4 months to be exact.

All the batteries in my previous and other cars at home had lasted minimum of 4 years. Hence was a bit worried.
Nevertheless, will get the battery health check done next week.

In case it turns out to be a weak battery, will the warranty be honoured for such cases of weak battery?
( Need to search for the warranty card now and keep it handy)

Regards,
Chandan

Re: "My Car Won't Start" | What To Do

Hi guys,

My car is behaving wierdly sometimes during start. What issue do you guys understand from the symptoms below ?

Vehicle - Polo 1.6 Petrol
Battery - about 4 years old (Exide)

Inspite of the battery being ok. The car just wont crank sometimes (1 out of 20 odd)

When such an incident happens, the car dashboard lights go dim when I crank. However when I attempt it again, the car starts normally.

I was trying my DIY to diagnose the issue and saw that my music system lights (when the system is off) are blinking when the car is on. (video link here)

Can you check the battery terminals if they are tight enough?

What is the cranking voltage across the terminals?

The terminals were loose, but during my suspension overhaul I showed it to the service center and they have inserted a filler wire (full metal) to tighten the connection between the terminals and the wires. This was before a 500 km drive and regular 50 km trips. (the car misbehaved on the trip as well)

Cranking voltage was ok as per the Battery guy. (checked recently)

Loose terminals are the most probable reason. I would take the terminal connector off, clean it and then tighten it. Another problem area is the cable to earth. Check, clean and tighten it.

Even my research is hinting to earthing issue.

As there was one more symptom which I missed in my original post. The music system was giving me a sharp hissing sound whenever I played the music from my Aux while the phone was charging.

However, I am a complete nood when it comes to electricals. The youtube search gives me very few videos about the earthing connections on a Polo.

Can anyone help me with understanding the Polo earthing system once?

Re: "My Car Won't Start" | What To Do

Hi veterans. My 5 yrs old eon dlite+ is having trouble starting up, of late, especially during the last few months of disuse due to covid restrictions. Although we try starting the engine once in 2-3 days or keeping the battery terminal open. It starts on jump starting the engine in a second though.

Please suggest what might have gone wrong.

Thanks .

While running the car in idle for a few minutes a day helps in trickle charging it, doing that alone won't help it retain full charge. You may want to jump start it and run for about 25-30 kms and check. If that doesn't help, you may want to have the battery health checked.

Re: "My Car Won't Start" | What To Do

Just to isolate the issue with Primer Pump, I got the old pump (the one which was removed in Nov. 2019), installed back and used the car for one day. I had to pump the primer pump everytime before I start the car. The car did not start even when cold.

That pump failing or being choked may be the root cause of the problem.
Hence concluded that this Primer Pump is the culprit. Installed New Complete "Primer Pump-Filter-Sensors" Assembly costing Rs. 4400/- and the problem vanished.

Now the car starts in 1st attempt irrespective of Engine Temperature- Cold, Warm, Hot without touching Primer Pump.

I think the one I got installed in Nov. 2019 (only Primer Pump and Temperature Sensor was replaced costing @ Rs. 2000/-) was not Genuine Bosch and failed in less than 1-2 months.

Thank you SS Sir for this advice.

Sirs, on ignition the lights turn on and stay on, the radio plays too but the engine dont start. I read somewhere that it might happen due to the water levels in the battery being low or if its leaking which might be indicated on deposition of salt around the terminals, which is there in my case.

Also I had similar problems before when it was found to be rat attack. Is it a possibility this time too, although i have changed states since then!

On jump starting the car starts just in a second and keeps running byt once in a while stops again midway even if not more than 500 m away.

So if the battery is culprit or not, is it worthwhile going for the maruti jumpstart pocket battery which can be handy or dealing with the car itself would be worthwhile?

Please advice.

Update - Got the car inspected last weekend again at Satyam Ford, Thane. It was a nice experience overall and after two days of check ups with battery, electricals and fuel system, they found the issue with fuel injector in one of the pots.
The injector seems to be leaking fuel even when not in use and according to the SA, might also be injecting more than required fuel when running resulting in slightly notch ride and lesser fuel efficiency.
They got the issue confirmed with the Ford engineers and the part replacement has been ordered and expected in a weeks time.

My question to the knowledgeable folks -
Does the diagnosis seem in line with the behaviour?
What should I keep an eye out for when getting this fixed to avoid getting duped (just want to be careful)?
Is there anything else I should get tested along with this? If this fault has caused any other issues or such.

I'm not sure the keys need to be re-programmed after replacing only the antenna coil. I guess the antenna coil itself is a "dumb" part i.e. it merely receives the signal from the transponder (present inside the key) and transfers it to the SMARTRA module which performs the "smarter" stuff.

Hey RSR, I have a query pertaining to SMARTRA and was wondering if you could help me out with it.

I have an all new i20 1.0 Turbo DCT which we bought in Nov 2020. There’s a peculiar problem which I’m facing since the last couple of months.

The issue is that the request sensor for the keyless entry works only intermittently as per its whim. The door handle has already been replaced twice under warranty and the problem is still not solved. The dealer says that this seems to be a SMARTRA issue and he’s escalating it to the regional office. However, after reading a few replies of yours on this thread it appears that SMARTRA is more of an engine immobiliser related part and may not really be the solution to my problem. I have a feeling my issue is more towards the Keyless entry BCM.

Any thoughts?

Re: "My Car Won't Start" | What To Do

The Amaraon installed on my Thar CRDe in 2018 went so dead today morning that even the lights went out on the cluster. This was really strange for me as I have seen batteries getting weak and die but never like this - forget cluster lights, even the cabin light was not working.
Initially thought a terminal might have come loose but nothing of that sort. Managed to jump start and checked the condition - it was discharged completely! Without any lights or load on. The charging volt shows 13.7 so my alternator is ok; Water level in battery also ok.
The last time I used my vehicle was 2 days back and there is no possibility of it getting discharged like this in a daily use vehicle.

Other issue I know since last 1.5 years is the positive terminal getting that white flaky deposits. This was so bad that I had to change the positive cable as it was corroded beyond repair. Since then I regularly clean it and spray with a protector or use petroleum jelly.

My Battery shop told me that this is a common problem with Amaron and he has seen many such cases of corrosion on positive terminal. This usually happens if it is overcharging. Has anyone faced this in Amaron?
