AT cars will always have shorter brake life than their MT brethren because the brakes are used far more. 25k is good life for brake pads in an AT in Indian conditions.

But Immortalz by what % could that be different. There could be a slight variation - let's guess 20%.

Seems MT goes nearly upto 50K - (mine is going strong at 40K) and AT 25K, so is it that MT brake pads lasts 2 times more or so?

Well, you sure use the brake pads a lot more - maybe 50% or more - with the A/T. The service advisor at Honda said 25-30k is the best I can hope for with sedate driving. Who drives sedately? :o

The CVT box is different - there is no torque converter shenanigans.

But likely longer engine life, since there is no question of lugging, knocking, etc. Also no clutch costs. With the advancement in AT tech., I foresee the day may not be too far off when we may get cars only with AT.

Yesterday I had a chance to let my civic unleash its power. while driving to attend the TBHP Bangalore meet, I got the NICE toll totally free in the afternoon. I touched a 197 kmph on the speedo, and I found that it just did not go further how much ever I pushed. I could sustain this speed for about 4 minutes on the NICE road. Whoah what a beast, and is quite stable and poised. I entered Bannergatta entrance and exited at Tumkur exit in 16minutes

Question, mine is all stock civic. So is 197kmph the max speed the civic MT can touch? I felt so, as it was just not going above. Not to test, but to understand. Somewhere I read it is electronically limited to 205.

I don't know how long the brakes are meant to last but I believe judicious use of engine braking should reduce the wear and tear on the brakes and provide slightly longer life.

I use a Civic A/T and regularly complement by assisting the braking with a paddle downshift as well (even if I'm in D mode).

197 seems to be on a lower side for a M/T. I have driven my uncle's 2007 civic upto 209kmph on NH-1. and that is a stock car too (what performance mods would you expect from an 64 yrs. old man ). I literally ripped the car and was able to touch 209 within 90 seconds. I still have the video on my cell, don't know how to put it here.

Yes, 205-210 is max for MT, 195-200 is max for AT. A slight incline or speedo error may affect things. Which gear / RPM were you in? Normally max will only be achieved in 4th gear.

The older civics do not have paddle shift in D mode, but there is reasonable engine braking even in D mode (unlike the old corolla AT - no idea about the new Altis AT - which would simply coast if you let off on the gas pedal). In fact the grade logic control also worked quite well recently on a ghat stretch, I felt no need to use the paddle shifts. It all requires just a bit more anticipation.

These are the shifting points for the AT, correct me if I am wrong. The paddle shifts will also not let you upshift or downshift at these lmits.

1st to 2nd: 17 kmph
2nd to 3rd: 30 kmph
3rd to 4th: 40 kmph
4th to 5th: 55 kmph

You could be right.
I maxxed out on 197 at the fifth gear. I did not want to downshift then
RPM I did not check, my eyes were firmly on the road

So then the info I read with a limit on 205 could be true.

Man ! Those are mind blowing speeds you are talking about and if the car is so stable and planted as what you say, then one cannot ask for more.

That is one of the reasons I preferred the civic over the corolla. Corolla feels unstable over 80-100 kmph, civic feels very planted. In fact I was doing 130 kmph on a highway and one of the rear passenger happened to look at the speedo after a few minutes. He remarked: You are doing 130? I though we were going at 80.
