5w40 A3/B4 so you have your pick of engine oils for that. Shell Helix Ultra, Mobil 1, Idemitsu etc besides this Repsol.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Hi,

I have a Xcent Crdi (2014). I used Castrol Trubomax CH-4 (15W-40) in my last service at 63000 kms.

I am planning to change my oil at 70000 kms (Oddo currently at 67k kms). I have few questions regarding engine oil change.

- Is change at 7000 kms okay? or Can I change between 9k-10k kms?
- Can I upgrade to Shell Rimula CI4+? (Recommended Engine Oil grade as per owners manual attached )
- Is grade mentioned in owner's manual correct? (there appears to be a conflict)

Re: All about diesel engine oils

That turbomax is a CI4 / E7 (extended drain interval) oil and should be good for more than 7k km. They do suggest acea B5 - so any 5w30 a5/b5 like Idemitsu or Mobil 1 should work. Small diesel engine so such low viscosity dual use engine oils are just fine for all possible use other than extremely severe loads like towing, off road etc.

If you want to use a diesel specific oil any good CI4 or higher is fine - the Castrol one is a very good oil as is the Shell Rimula.

Feel free to change at 10k intervals

Thank you so much sir.

I inserted the picture from Google (my bad), the one I had put is CH4 only.

Which is the oil you recommend under INR 1700?

Mobil 1 Delvac MX or Shell Rimula CI4+?

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Delvac is much costlier than that. Use the Rimula R4 ci4 or the updated version of that Castrol also ci4 - all these big brands periodically introduce new and upgraded versions of their oils.

Sir Mobil Delvac MX is available on Amazon at INR 1450 for 5 litres. I am not sure about the API grade of this one.

Thanks again for your help.

Sir can you please enlighten me on the ACEA grades?

While I can understand the API grades, I do not understand the ACEA grades at all.

I have tried googling but there is no simple guide available.

While American, Japanese & South Korean OEMs follow the API specifications. The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (or Association des Constructeurs Européens d'Automobiles in French, hence the ACEA abbreviation) is an organization that represents the 15 most important European motor vehicle manufacturers.

In cases where a certain Indian OEM (Mahindra/Tata) also sells their vehicles in parts of Europe; they consider it prudent to have ACEA specifications listed for the lubricants in addition to the API specs that they recommend for their passenger class automotive engines.

Then of course there are OEM specific spcs such as BMW LL-01, MB 229.5, VW 502/505, Porsche A40, Renault RN0700 or Fiat 9.55535.Z2 that the particular OEM follows because their engines are not run of the mill motors and have very high compression ratios, tight tolerances, or the peculiar design/proprietary technology that their engine might employ & therefore the ACEA specifications might be too generic for these makes.

As for detailed explanation of the ACEA specifications, here's the link that will help you understand the finer points.

Tried searching on the forum as well as on Google. Can't find anything reliable.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Hello All,

My Creta (1.4) will be due for 30k service in few days. I'll get it serviced from Hyundai A.S.S and will go with Mineral oil with them and then go for a fully synthetic oil (Hyundai recommends Shell Helix ( ACEA A3/B4). Can someone suggest me a good sythentic oil? I'm eyeing for Amsoil 5W 40 as my drain interval will be 9-10k. Any suggestions please?

Thank you.

Shell Helix IS a good synthetic oil. Good for rather more than 10k drains.
Old Creta needs CH4 or better, new ones since 2018 need A3/B4

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 in Figo 1.5D.

It is time to change oil in my New Figo 1.5D. I had
been running it with Delvac 1 5w40 for the past ~10k kms. The oil had proven much better than Mobil 1 5w30 used before the Delvac. Mobil 1 became coarse after 7,500 kms.

I always had a pang about using 5w40 instead of the recommended 5w30. This lead me to try out 5w30 oils this time. I desperately tried in vain to source Amsoil signature 5w30(Diesel) oil but avoided the petrol version. I was wary of using 5w30 petrol oil in diesel after the not-so-great experience with Mobil 1.

I have bought Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 for this oil change. I am not able to delve deep in to the details other than the 'Synthetic' and '5w30'.

Is this a good choice?

What is the effect of API SN on my engine?

What difference will a c2/c3 make, as opposed to the recommended a5/b5?

Please share your opinion on my decision.

I would also like to know where I could source Amsoil Signature 5w30 Diesel version.
Amsoil Diesel 5w30 [Just one 950ml can is left in stock for the past 1 month.]

Ford specifies ACEA A5/B5 with some additions - WSS-M2C913C/D - which is dual use - A5 is an ACEA (european API equivalent) spec for Petrol while B5 is for Diesel.

You could just get Mobil Super 3000 x1 (only oil with the actual ford spec from the open market) and change every 8k or so km.

See https://www.oilspecifications.org/acea.php for what the various ACEA ratings mean.

As for Amsoil Diesel 5w30 - contact Ms Prajakta from Greaves +91 98811 51722 and she can tell you of any local distributor in your city.

Thank you for your input. It helped me understand the emphasis on A5/B5 part in addition to the 5w30.

I too want to opt for the oil that suits the Ford's recommendations perfectly. The issue that proves to be a hurdle for me is that the oil capacity of the Figo 1.5 diesel is 3.8L and this Super 3000 x1 is available in 3.5L pack only. There are no 1L packs available to. I don't want to buy two 3.5L packs and keep an opened can of engine oil for using it after an year This makes me look for something else.

I am in touch with the person for Amsoil who has responded positively. The logistics are proving to be a challenge though. If the Amsoil diesel 5w30 couldn't be sourced this time then I will opt for available Amsoil 5w30 signature which is 5w30 + A5/B5.
