Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

An Austin 7 tourer from Bombay, posted by someone in a facebook group.
Looks complete though not sure of the exact originality details.

If I'm not mistaken this is the same car appearing the memorable 'accident' scene with the green Mark II Ambassador driven by Sanjeev Kumar in the movie Seeta aur Geeta

Austin 7 tourers were quite common at one time, in the 1970's they were seen all over India. Now many have disappeared, some have rotted away, but these were charming little cars, often misused like the one below, but could be parked under the steps.

Karl, this red Austin 7 looks similar to the red one which came for rallies a couple of years ago, except that that one had a radiator shell in brass finish when it should be chromed. But many parts are still brassy, not to my liking.

Cheers harit

This is the Powale car that has been a regular at events for decades probably. Maybe you are referring to this brass finished car.

Since we are on the topic of 'Baby' Austins, here is a tourer that was seen in an early movie called 'Toofani Tirandaz'

Some of my cars, at Allahabad. The Hindustan 14 is now in Chandigarh, and the Buick in Chennai.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Sent by a fb friend from Madras. I concluded this is a 1948 Wolseley 10 with a lot of mods and add-ons, and the Ford badge in place of the illuminated Wolesley one:

Spotted this at Mysore.
Is this an original or a replica? The owner had this brought in from Delhi. He 'supposedly' paid a lot of money for it.

The 'classic' two wheeler does not want to be left out. On the left of the minor convertible is an Austin Ruby tourer.

It is a neatly excuted chop job, doesn't look too out of proportion. The car would be an earlier Series D5 from 1937.

This very clearly seems one of those mayapuri jeeps. There are many signs visible. The base version may not also be an original short bonnet jeep. But a very pleasing looking vehicle indeed.

Also, the emblem of Ford for the GPW was embossed below the winshield. Here I believe, is not so, as the yellow plate is bolted exactly on that location. The steering wheel, gearbox, pedals are different as well.

Here is an actual one for comparison. -

This is an Austin Princess, a premium model from Austin, that was known for its affordable cars. This model had a wooden dashboard, that used to be well crafted like many premium cars.
