So, there I was, driving back to the garage through the usual road...

Mahindra CJ340 joins Team-BHP family-p6034053.jpg

When I reached there, for the first time I didn't see my Jeep in the Garage.

Yes, it was out of there, and into the paint shop.

As I mentioned earlier, the paint work didn't start as scheduled. This was the stage I found it on Saturday.

Meanwhile Vinay's Jeep did get its first coat of paint.

CJ340 doesn't have a lockable cabin or lockable anything. So I am trying to address some of that during this rebuild. Now my Jeep is going to have some security features.

Gearshift lock

Hood lock

Steering lock hook.

Even the spare wheel have a lock, but I don't have a photo of that.

I wanted to get a date of completion, but the garage owner was not ready to commit a date since the painter was out of town. I guess June end will be a safe bet.

Wow what a lovely road to drive on in your GV. Restoration documentation continues.

I guess Jeep echo's "Born Free" attitude and hence no locks. Anywhere. ;-)

This is probably the prettiest route to travel between Bangalore to Mangalore. It is lot prettier in real than my shots. The best stretch is Hunsur-Tittimathi-Pollibetta-Ammathi-Murnad, but no regular travelers between Bangalore-Mangalore would take it since it is unknown to people outside Coorg. GPS (Satguide) was going mad during this trip.

Now since the SWB prices have hit the orbit, it is not wise to leave it so unprotected.

You might consider having a couple master electrical switches put in a concealed place.
I say two switches for redundancy in case one switch fails.

The idea is to confuse the thieves who hot wire your vehicle only to find they do not have any hot wire to hot wire to. They will probably give up at that point.

If (switch_a is on or switch_b is on) then

perform power_routine

else

perform no_power_routine

endif.

Excuse me, folks, for the above. This is the only way you can talk to a computer programmer and make him understand at first read.

Geez, I like that color. It looks a lot like the slate of the Dhauladhar range out my back door.

Samurai. the CJ340 has a lockable box below the front driver seat. Is it there on yours?

Even the spare wheel has a lock bolt and of course the dash.

Ken, shouldn't that be AND logic instead of OR?

In an open Jeep they don't have to start it. They can simply tow it away keeping it in neutral. That is why I have the choice of gear-lock or steering lock, they can't break it without some serious cutting equipment. And it also acts as deterrent at first look.

beejay, I do have lockable toolbox and glovebox with very flimsy locks that can be easily defeated.

Hey Samurai,
Thanks for the update, so happy to see your jeep.
Hope to see it completely done up with the winch & your mean looking Mags.
Wishing you all the luck.
By the way am planning to go your way in knowing my jeep better & getting it into shape hope you don't mind :-)

Regards,
Kumar

Yeah, the open jeep business dictates physical locks I guess.

I prefer "or" logic for redundancy in this case. Either switch turned on lets you go. If one switch fails the other probably will work. Switches break and wear out. You do not want a bad switch to stop you cold.

In other countries if they want your vehicle they just put a gun to your head and take it. The Ford Bronco in my avatar was stolen, never to be seen again. I walked out of my house in the morning to go to work. I walked down the sidewalk to the street where I parked it and it was not there. A peculiar feeling and a significant emotional event then followed.

All the travellers by the KSRTC volvo to virajpet from mysore region do have to go via the Gonikoppal-polibetta-ammathi-virajpet route. Any new buses put to coorg is made to ply on that route

Have you finalised the color as the jeep is coming up nicely.

@Dan: The vehicle in your avatar looks great. Sad to hear the way you parted ways.

Unfortunately, the logs don't exist for this part. I guess Garmin 260W doesn't log the travel unless it is in navigate mode. Since the Garmin claimed it can't find a route to Madikeri from Mysore road, I had just kept in map mode. This Saturday I will be returning via same route, I'll try to get it this time.

Last Saturday I swung by the garage again, this time it was again most of the way. But rain also makes the country side beautiful...

Ok, now to the main agenda. The paint work is complete, just some stuff left on the floor.

I moved all the rebuild posts to my original vehicle thread. This is the right section for rebuild posts.

The "how to live with CJ340" is a technical thread, not about just my vehicle.
