Its not that they dont know. They just are not committed. They work on 10 vehicles at a time simultaneously.

There's a guy called Antony who does soft tops for Jeeps. He's located on the first cross, journalist's colony, i.e., when you come from Minerva Circle, you take a left at the next traffic light and then an immediate left again.

He asked me for advance to do my MM540 top even before starting the work, I refused and said that I would make full payment once the job was done. Thereafter he started dodging me. Probably you went to the same guy.

Apparently he is supposed to be the best it seems. But i got lot of mixed reviews about him and when I called to for the job he was least bothered (could sense it) and told hes busy and will take 2-3 days to finish it. I got a contact from my mech about another guy named khadir/sadik or something like that. Hes located in journalist colony (last building on the right, 1st floor).

The Jeep is with Mr. Anthony. And I guess these guys don't start work unless some advance is paid. The canvas cloth was washed and left for drying and he said since he will be off for the festival holidays he would finish it by tomorrow.

This is what I got to know from the folks around JC road. Everybody seems to be directing me to him. And I did visit him a few times before today and I kinda felt confident about him.

Damn! That was bad! Any idea how bad it could be with the Jeep? Could they interchange parts? Change tires? Engine parts? how badly could they molest it?

Now that it is too late (as the Jeep is already in mr. anthonys custody) just got to see how bad it hurts in the morning

2 guys were inspecting the engine bay with the hood open.

There are more such experiences, but i guess, you get an idea with this.

Like i said, if u trust this guy, leave the vehicle with him.
If not, please make yourself free for 2 days and get it done.
Once he is done for the day, drive your vehicle back home and take it again the next day.
A lot of us would be happy to give you company

committment is something unheard of with these guys. Looting is the mantra! be it these JC road guys or the mechanics - They strongly believe in "Make Hay while the Sun Shines" and bleed us guys max!

Anyways -- Thanks for my well wishers out here. But as I mentioned earlier - Too late now as the Jeep is already there and I can only pray and hope that good sense prevails over the guys around there and No harm is done to the Hulk!

Oh yes, In the melee I forgot to add this.

I got the Military style stickers (Star) put at the rear sides and a reduced size "4 Wheel drive" decal (as there wasn't enough space on the tail gate to put up original size cos of the spare wheel / Jerry can mounts). Not sure if 5 inches are Original size though.

Avoided putting the 18" Star on top of the Bonnet as I may end up getting the jeep painted in a couple of months time.

Will put up pics once the new top is put up. (Still praying that nobody molests the Hulk)

Thanks & Regards,
Shubz

Did a quick recce of JC road at around 11 to see if the vehicle is still around with people underneath it or over it.... It wasn't there. So as promised by Mr. Anthony, the Jeep has been pushed inside the next shop. Gonna be there before the shops open to see where the vehicle comes out of.

Hoping for the best. Jeepers pray with me please

Cheers,
Shub

@ Shubz - This guy told me that he's got measurements all jeeps and if I give him an advance, he'll cut the material according to the dimensions of my jeep and all he has to do is stitch the top and mount it on the jeep. Half a day's job, he said. And he's taken three days for your jeep !!

After suffering his indifference and casual attitude, I got my top done at a place in Mathikere. Same price as what Anthony quoted and excellent workmanship. In fact just got it done two days ago.

If you are going there, just go. Dont call him and tell him you're coming.

@ livyodream - He's just off Triveni Road, Yeshwanthpur.

If you are coming from Malleswaram side, take a right at the traffic light after the BHEL Circle/IISc Main Gate traffic light, go about half a km, you'll see a Shani Temple on the left, take a left immediately after that. Go straight down for about 100 yards, you'll see the shop on your right. His name is Raju. Give him my reference - black MM540 which he did on Tuesday.

Or if you're free this Saturday, let me know. I am going there myself.

Cheers

KD

Gentlemen,

Thank you so very much for your support/help/guidance.

The Jeep is in the same condition as I had given. Mr. Anthony is a trustworthy guy afterall!

FYI - it did not take 3 days for the top to be completed. I had gone there y'day as he had put the canvas to wash/dry on sat and it took 2 days to dry. So Wednesday morning I went there, he took measurements, got the rods (6 rods - for the skeleton) and started working on it. Since I had to come to office, I had no choice but to leave it there (with the heart in my mouth). I went there this morning - was before Anthony's shop even before he came, just to check where would the Jeep come from. Then comes Anthony at around 9:45 am. The accessories shop next door opens at around 9:50 am and Lo! My Jeep was safely tucked in in there.

The skeleton was in place. The top was half finished. I started shopping for a good pair of horns. Got a pair of Roots horn and was getting that fixed while my eyes were never off Mr. anthony.

I also got the mud flaps fixed!

There were a couple of other vehicles in waiting. Had I taken my eyes off him, he would've jumped at those vehicles and would've been handling 3 jobs at one time, prolonging completion of mine.

To top it all, just when he was about to finish with the brass buttons and stuff, heavens opened up! and i was disheartened as I would've had to wait for more time - Remember I have been on my feet from 9:30 am and it was almost 3 pm. Rain gods relented for 15 mins, and he quickly put the top on!

I guess even the gods were happy with the outcome. It started pouring like crazy again. And I set off for home, to get ready and run to work. I did manage to click a few pics as well.

Overall I would say, Good Job but not Outstanding! If not for the other two vehicles and drivers breathing down his neck, I am sure he could've done a better job than this.

Cheers folks!
Shub

Actually it has come out quite well. I like it! How much damage did it do to your wallet?

Thanks Jaggu - Am glad you liked it!

Here is the break up.

5000 for the canvas (the foldable front door, and the strap to fasten the Jerry can is included in this cost and pending)

1500 for Roots pair of horns including new wiring/labor (cut out not required as the vehicle already had one)

300 bucks for the mud flaps - SUMO was written on each of them. Had them scrub it clean!

Shub,
Now thats what I call a no frills and handsome Jeep.
The top too has come out well. Reg. the mud flaps get atleast two fasteners on each side, better three or the flaps will move/tilt right and left in due time.

Thank you Fazal sir. I was always aiming at the "Originality" than any mods/frills and I am glad that so far folks have loved it!

The mud flaps do have two fasteners. You are able to see just one because the other one is just behind the rear step frame. A third one, as you said is indeed welcome, but there wasn't any provision for the same. Would've had to drill the fender with one more hole, and I wasn't too keen on that.

Regards,
Shub
