Neways, thanks for identifying another avenue for us to source items from.

By the way, someone has any idea whether the foot activated headlight dimmer switch that used to be there beside the clutch pedal is available in India?
Must be available at Auto acc. stores that sell parts for old vehicles like Amby etc. If not -eBay!

FYI - I got the dimmer switch by the foot. Here is the pic

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

A big THANK YOU to Jaggu for guiding me to the Ole` Man! The Jeep is now with him to take care of the following

1) Engine tune up.
2) There used to be heart wrenching sound when starting the Jeep. I suspected the starter motor to be howling. It was discovered that the mating between the starter motor and the flywheel is incorrect - resulting in the damaged gear teeth on them.
3) The dynamo is mounted incorrectly.
4) Tranny leakage.
5) A few miscellaneous stuff like the tailgate rattle.
6) Fuel pump - suspected damaged diaphragm.

Ole man was quick in dismantling the gb - and found nothing wrong with the gears - thank god for that.

Got to visit him on Tuesday to see the progress.

I saw Jaggu's Jeep roll in on the katcha road, I could only see it roll in, but couldn't hear a thing - Awesome work with the engine, Jaggu! This man knows his stuff I am sure.

Too bad, I didn't know about him, else would not have let my Jeep be attended to by the earlier mechanic

Jaggu - Please feel free to post your observations about my Hulk!

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

@Shubz: no need to thank me, i know the pain of finding a reliable and knowledgeable person to work on these old jeeps. Especially the engine side, i was fortunate to get introduced to him by PrabhuAV. This is the least i can do to help others.

Your jeep has loads of original and enviable stuff in it. Funny thing is i had seen the add for the jeep while i was hunting for one. I preferred a RHD and hence did not pursue it actively. Its a matter of time and right mech to set the minor things on track in your vehicle and then you will have a reliable 4x4

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Had been to the garage today. Never seen a more meticulous mechanic than this Ole` man! I wish I had known about this guy when I got the Jeep.

The flywheel gear has arrived. Starter motor seems to be good (thank god for that). He has asked one of his contacts for the radiator shroud, will know by evening is what he said.

Jaggu - Seems like he has taken a liking for the Hulk. He was mentioning it is a pleasure to work with vehicles and owner who are keen on originality and not keen on needless mods. I am sure he would do a good job of it.

He was rueing the fact that his name does not appear anywhere on the internet. Can we do something to promote this guy? He sure is a boon to the Jeeping community in Bangalore!

Shubz, I'm totally in love with your Jeep! Kudos to you and the Ol'e man. Perhaps you could give us some more WIP pics?

Btw - about Ole' mans name, why not post a review on the T-Bhp directory, IF it's not there already?

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Gautam,

Thanks mate! It was a quick stop today and the time was spent in doing some PR work with the Ole`man! Tomorrow I will go there a bit earlier than today and click pics. And thanks for the suggestion - I will post it in the T-BHP directory!

Regards,
Shub

Jaggu, how about taking a pic of your Jeep (when complete) with this Old man behind the steering wheel and you seated in the Co-drivers seat. Show him the web-page when you visit him next time, that would make him feel nice.. Sadly, we don't understand the value of such people when they are around, reminds me of a similar saying in Malayalam ("Muttathe mullekku manam illa")

Spike

PS- Shubz can also plan the same!

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Thanks for the suggestion Spike.

I plan to list the vehicles he is currently doing. Take pics of him while he is working, post it and show him that he is being talked about too!

His words today was kinda heart wrenching - which goes -

There are dime a dozen mechanics who are posted on the internet, and who only know to "Anabond" stuff and not respect the sanctity of the golden oldies. These people X,Y,Z (he named a few of the known - younger mechanics) were once with me begging for help and now they don't bother as they are making enough $$$ by sub standard works

Regards,
Shub

Gopal was very glad to hear that we are planning to promote him. He was profusely thanking me for that. I told him, Jaggu saaar may also do something like this on these lines. We want to promote you and let the jeep community know of you.

Very honestly i never had a clue that he would appreciate this. I thought he would like to keep things low profile. But yes i will definitely write a good report once i take delivery of DwArF. But will mention the dont's also, like i mentioned to you Shubz

For starter, this man needs space and impatient guys better keep off.

Wow that is good news! Hope it is around the same time as last weekend. I will get another opportunity to meet up with you.

Going by what you had described, even I thought he would like a low profile but no, he is sad that he is not getting his due attention.

I just mentioned about the "Flywheel facing" disadvantage and he almost flared up saying, he knows what he is doing etc etc.. and I had to duck for cover saying - i am only discussing not asking you to do or not do certain things. then he calmed down and said, he would love to discuss technicalities with people who have a penchant for it and not with people who doubt his capabilities. phew!! And then he started thanking me for saying that Jaggu and I are planning a promotion program for him.

Tomorrow I hope to get there to see what is going on and take some notes about him and get some pics. (planning)
