Underbody protection & Paint sealant - 4246/- inclusive of tax & after 1000/- monsoon discount.
Nomad mats in black colour - Expensive - between 5000-6000/-. It does the job but visually not appealing.
Paint protection film - Cost depends on the area.
CR70 sun film for the entire glasshouse - Around 5000/- for the windows & rear. Winsheild is expensive at around 10k.

Thank you! Could you please share some info & difference between Paint Sealant and Paint Protection Film? which is recommended for a new (2 months old) vehicle?

Planning to visit the HSR Layout store on Sunday, after the T-BHP meet.

Pahwa, Paint sealant is an application, if my memory serves be right some 4-5 steps are involved. It basically reduces swirl marks and keeps the paint alive for long. While Paint Protection film or PPF is a pretty durable transparent film applied over the paint surface in areas where the car has more chance of getting scratched.

I am not associated with 3M but have been a regular since it opened

Paint sealant is used to add gloss to the paint finish, and supposedly safeguards it from UV-induced paint ageing. Its something you'll need to reapply every 6 months (IIRC) for best results. Given the newness of your vehicle, its something you could defer if you wish and come back to applying later too.

PPF (Paint Protection Film) is a transparent film used to safeguard paint from minor scrapes that are inevitable in our traffic. Usual spots for application are the edges of bumpers (if they're body coloured), the outer shell of mirrors, edges of doors, etc. One thing to be cautious of is that when applied on white painted surfaces, the film acquires a yellowish tinge. However, since your Duster is silver, this won't be a concern.

Bear in mind that this film isn't magic, and won't safeguard you from harder damages. I'd assume that if for instance you scrape against a pillar when reversing, the damage will go through the film. On the other hand, small nicks like what you'd get from a bicycle pedal will be protected by this film.

Balance out the cost of the film versus potential cost of repainting panels, and than make your decision. PPF is best applied earlier, before you get any of these annoying damages.

Adding to what motomaverick has said, one is a detailing process and another is a protection film for paranoid owners . Paint sealant is analogous to having a long-lasting wax layer on your car which keeps the paint looking fresh for longer. It is not a protective coating.

Paint protection film is specifically to prevent scratches during minor nicks, say with 2 wheelers touching bumpers or mirrors, or to prevent small stone hits on the highways, etc. In such cases, the film takes the impact of the hit and that can be peeled off and replaced (as opposed to getting a scratch on the paint itself).

P.S - sorry my reply came in a few seconds after arunphilip's reply . Mods, please delete my post if the information is redundant.

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

Dont know where, but my windshield picked up some sprayed material which felt like organic stuff. Caught it only when I tried to use the wiper to clean. It made a screeching sound which made me think, it would have been wiper breaking up. But they looked nice. I gave it a day or two thinking the cleaning guy at home, would take care of it. But no such luck. Took it to 3M and the guys said its tar.

I vaguely remember tar being sprayed on the road some where I had gone. Though I dont how it could have landed on my windshield and some parts of the car. The guys did an amazing job removing it and later got it waxed as well. The vehicle is as good as new. Good time spent with Sidhu for company and an amazing job done.

When I was leaving, I realised I just finished a year with car (22K on the odo) they day before and nothing would have been a better gift than this !

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

My first visit to 3M @ HSR was more than a month back.

I am a very picky owner when it comes to how well a car is washed and serviced. The service my Vista got at 3M was the best I've experienced till date. I got the Exterior Superb wash and wax treatment for INR 1674/- (inclusive of all taxes).

The Bangalore rains and dust usually would make my sparkling blue Vista look like a matte brown Vista in less than 7 days after a thorough wash. However, after the treatment at 3M, the dust accumulated during the day was washed off by the rains at night. The muddy water beads just ran off the surface! And this held up for close to 3 weeks. My car is now finally beginning to look matte brown, and it is time again for a visit to 3M HSR.

Yes, all the posts and rumors are true -- the guys are totally professional. Pradeep explained all the available treatments, and Sidhu sir arrived shortly afterwards with genuine interest in how the job is progressing. They are focused on doing a good job and on ensuring our satisfaction. They are not interested in making us rake up a huge bill for no apparent reason. While the car was being pampered, we had a nice chat over tea with other Bhp-ians KarthikK, speedsatya, and BIBIN004.

I will be visiting 3M HSR again shortly, and this time I have a couple of other jobs in mind too.

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

You know you've been bitten by the car care/3M bug when you go to your office breakout area, look at the glossy tables there, get irritated at all the swirl marks on it, and think "Man, with some rubbing compound you can fix those and put such a glossy finish on it".

The 3M guys at HSR are probably the best I have ever interacted with. I went for an exterior detailing on the Amaze and based on their advice I ended up buying the mats and an underbody treatment. Awesome guys I must say !

But somehow , being in a very dusty area , I would have preferred the polishing to be done in an enclosed area. They do the polishing inside the shop which is actually open in the front. So all the polishing being done would actually have some dust on the vehicle surface no matter how much they have cleaned it. I did mention this to Siddu also.

Yes it is a very good observation! Mr. Siddhu how about an air curtain? That way you do not have to block that area?

Cheers

Hi Guys

My Linea crossed 18 months on 23rd September and 44000 kms yesterday and had not got a wash in the last 1000 kms or so.

Got a well deserved detailing job yesterday at 3M HSR layout.

Lot of people ask me whats the secret of getting this nice deep shine on the car. The answer is, wax gives good shine if the paint surface is smooth and clean. The getting paint sealant treatment done will ensure that the car looks new every time we wax, and also, never get car washed daily / with hard water / dust the car with dry cloth / use Jopasu duster when dust is sticking to paint surface. I feel Jopasu on stuck dust will spoil both paint and duster.

My regimen is annual sealant job followed by 2 washes a month at 3M, with waxing once or twice a month depending on need basis.

Before and after pics (EDIT: The last self portrait is from this morning):
