it will block the RVM. depends on what you want. i have seen many cars having flip down screens due to two main reasons. one a single monitor is enough for every one in the car. second it is not so easily visible to potential thieves.

remove the reading lights if it is not required, else get in touch with good installers. fiberglass ca be used to mould in new position and suitable accommodation can be made for a display. reading lights cant be moved back. it has to go sideways, so they will have to be split. another option is remove them completely and try to integrate the display in its place and use two usb powered led lights which come for laptop. run it of the pc or with suitable resistor through door switch.

fiberglassing seems to more of a better option, but its the fact of getting it to look like the stock ABS molding. Meaning the texture and the color.

Since we talked about fabrication, just another question is ABS molding possible.

Most installers do custom gauge pods etc what materials do they use? Is it ABS or Fibreglass?

You can get the same guys who fabricate the gauge pods to make a LCD screen pod like the one on this Grande Punto.

I think most of the installers go in with fiberglass. I think ABS is a tough task.

@spadival : is the Grande Punto LCD fabricated or is it OE.

Thats not OE.. OE in Grand Punto will be the famed Blue & Me Nav which I dont think has been launched yet. In this, a tiny LCD display is integrated into instrument cluster. Not really that usefull.

Gigy, So its no longer a budget setup.. Just kidding!!

BTW, I got dashcam setup on my car now. The camera is glued to the front driver side dashboard and the USB cable is concealed. Will post a pic shortly.

I have recorded in wmv format @ 30fps and it takes about 200mb per hour. Can finetune this further with the right codec option.

Interested to know which is the wide screen model you bought from iride.in

yes buddy, nothing remains budget now. lost quite an amount trying to make budget stuff. have ordered model IRV-070BY. hope to get it by tomorrow. searched around a lot for touch screen but finally this seems most logical buy. would have loved the indash model but thats bit over budget;moreover i am going to relocate the cpu into dash behind stock location of headunit. i was thinking of integrating the monitor into the panel but should i? will have to get a new center console and may not get new case of the lcd if i change car in a year's time.

Around Rs 450 for the webcam DealExtreme: $8.39 USB PC Webcam (1.3MPixel with 6-LED). Same thing here costs Rs 800!! I had enough USB extension cables at home to string together. I have deliberately left a bit of the cable loose so that I can swivel the cam around freely.

I have used skinbedder [Release] SKINbedder V3 - Preview #2 - MP3Car.com . This program lets you skin and embed almost any program into your fornt end.

For embedding Google earth, I didnt create anything complicated like the one created by the author of skinbedder. Just a couple of text files which start and embed 2 programs - Goops and Google Earth after a certain amount of delay so that the Google Earth splash screen disappears.
