navinji,

can you tell me how to identify different type of capacitors? i asked my electronic stoe guy for ctr metallized polyester caps(4.7uf and 2.2uf for my infinity 6x9s) he said he didnt have ctr so he gave me some "BC CAPS". MPEA V 5 4.7mf k 250 is written on the cap. the cap has a yellow outside covering with shiny maroon inside.

is it a polyester cap? as i was planning to replace the bipolar electrolytics on my infinity 6x9s.

OT. would like to know if precision caps are available in india. for e.g. a 1% tolerance cap. i need some for my LC meter project. im stuck due to this. accuracy of the meter depends on what tolerance caps i use.

awaiting your reply
cheers

are you sure he said BC caps not Vishay. those markings look like Vishay.

do they look like these
Capacitors - Vishay - Film, Pulse-AC/Precision (Film)
or these
Capacitors - Vishay - Polyester, Radial
or these
MKT 1813 - C-values 470 pF - 22 µF, Voltage 63 - 1000 VDC, Low Profile, AXIAL - Vishay Capacitors
or these
KP 374 - AC and Pulse Polypropylene Film Foil Capacitors KP Radial Epoxy Lacquered Type - Vishay Capacitors

Vishay makes 1% caps too but you have to import them.

Before I was married I used to travel 10-12 times a year so I used to buy my stuff from the US. After getting married and having a family I hardly travel so I ask my BIL in singapore to order stuff for me and keep them at his place. then if I go there i just carry all of it back in one go.

Those caps do look like CTRs but they dont look as well made. I have not heard of BC caps and initially thought you were refering to BC Components (which was merged into Vishay).

Sam does not have to look beyond me. Most of my life I suffered from 2 maladies A.D.D and Dyslexia. The A.D.D improved after I got involved in Tennie (Volvo Tennis League) and Music (3 chord metaladies) but the Dyslexia is the same hence the typos keep surfacing.

Navin/Sam/Ajay - What do you guys think of current Nakamichi speakers? A prominent dealer in Delhi (Auto Marc aka Sanjay, LBM's dear friend!) is hard selling them.

I have no idea about how good or bad they are.

Nakamichi has lot much of it's sheen. I did get to listen to a pair of components (in fact I compared them to the Infintiy 6010 that are in my wife's car) and I did not like them enough. They looked well made and the bass was nice but the tweeter left much to be desired. For that matter I had already modified the 6010 XO so I dont know if I could have made the Naks sound nicer by doing the same.

What does LBM think (I presume he has heard them)?

A lot of Nakamichi has come in through some grey route: subs, comps, amps etc. Not heard any of it. Will let you know when I do. For a grey product it isn't exactly very cheap.
