Navin, I didn't get a price list, but I was charged 1300 bucks for 20 mtrs, so that makes it 65 bucks/mtr... This was for the 16awg that sam recomended for the SPEAKERS... I'm not installing a sub now, so no 12awg cables.. I guess the prices for 12awg should be close to what Sam's quoting, as I just got the 16awg for 5 bucks lesser than what Sam said it would cost [70 bucks]

As you can imagine, I've seen those specs often before. I never recommend a CS50.4 to run subs. It sounds great, but unlike cheaper amps, all JBL CS50.4 have clip-limiters built in. Now as Vivek and Navin have rightly pointed out, very often, more power is never an issue. However when a lesser powered amp is over driven, it creates clipping. Some of us cannot recognise this clip. When the CS50.4 clips, it reduces power, or sometimes goes off. The cheaper sony will play regardless, clip and all.
There is no doubt that the JBL amp is better, i'm not that biased. However if you need to overdrive an amp, even a little, the JBL will not co-operate with you. That is why i just find it safer to suggest that the 50.4 is no good for a sub.
I recommend the 75.4 for that.
I repeat that the 636 sounds nice on any amp. Like Navin said, it is a 6" woofer and will sound better on any amp.
Sam, I spoke with Sachin from Elegant motors. He suggested that I should buy the CS 50.4 for 7k with warranty as thats a very good price. However he suggested that use the two channels for the components and the other 2 for the tube. He said that if you drive all 4 speakers and a woofer than the amp will "CLIP". Is this an OK setup? Or should I just go for CS 50.4 for the 4 speakers right now, and later add a tube with a Sony monobloc for 3k. So that will take the total amp cost to 10k. Is this 10k worth it? Or should I just go for low end Sony 504Z and forget about the nitty gritty details?

you want to upgrde your stereo and speakers?

1. I would look at Sony and JVC (since there are good reprots on this forum about JVC too).

WIth your budget 14-15K I would spend about 7K on the HU and 7K on the sub and amp and keep the speakers for now.

for teh HU choose between Sony, JVC and Kenwood i've heard good things about the sony 5510 and 5610 and the jvc 515 and 615 so maybe these would do. Others here (aseem and sam esp) can help with exact prices and model numbers.

for the sub JBL makes a 12" tube and the cheapest amp is teh sony 504 for 4K.

HI Navin
I got the Sony 5510 installed...I tested out the Tube with the amp..but the probl is that the rear company fitted speakers start rattling..

So I am thinking of replacing the rear + front speakers.. ( 6 inch *4)....Now I am not too keen on 6*9 Ovals in the rear parcel tray..coz that would mean cutting ...Instead I would prefer something of 6 inch speakers for the rear + front..

I am thinking of some good 6 inch component speakers for the front( jbl)...but do they need a seperate amp ? or the sony 5510 hu amp would do..?

for the rear - to begin with i am confused..
- should i just replace the current speakers with other 6 inch ones ? which ones ? components again

My budget is 10k for the speakers + amp..HU has already been purchased..

Here is some useful information about Model Number and Prices for the sytems out there for all budgets as far as my knowledge is concerned:

Cheap and Good Head Units:

1) Sony 5510 ---- 6000

Ok display and good sound for the price. However prone for not reading scratched MP3's when it gets old.

2) Pioneer 6750--- 7500

Great display for the price. But look towards the cheaper side. Sound is little shrill. Decent value for money.

3) Pioneer 5750---- 7000

No Dolphin Display like 6750, rest all features remain the same. Pioneers dont come with bill and warranty.

4) JVC --- 5.5k

I will never recommend a JVC personally. Its the lower end.

Mid Range Head Units:

1) Sony 7700 --- 10k without bill

This is the most VFM sony with a great display. Over 7 display screen saves to choose from. 3 4V pre outs and Aux for IPod. The sound is a little tight, recommended for people whose choice of music is Eminem, 50 cent etc.

2) Sony 8800 --- 13k without bill

This is what I have in my car. All the features are from the Sony 7700 but it has a hydraulic open tray. Much much better display and is state of the art than any player in the market as far as the looks are concerned.

3) Alpine 9830 --- 12.75 k without bill 15k with bill

This is the most recommended system in the price bracket as far as the sound is concerned. Alpine is for those who want SWEETER music as opposed to louder music from the Sony's. Alpine are the most fav stereos of this forum. Recommended to any prespective buyer.

4) Alpine 9833 --- 14k without bill 19k with bill

Given the choice, this is the best VFM system out there. 3 4V pre outs, Bass Pro, 6 time correction etc.

5) Alpine 9851 --- 15 k without bill

Has much better display than 9830, but doesnt have Bass Pro and has 3 2V pre outs.

The last I spoke to the dealers, they mentioned that a new range of Alpines is out.

For users looking for VCD and DVD functionality:

Cheapest Options:

1) JVC HeadUnit with VCD : 6k

2) Sony HU with VCD: 8k

3) JVC DVD player: 11k

Screens start at 4k without bill for a 7" TFT.
