Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

I was using overhead FTTH internet provided by cable tv operator for sometime now. My connection was Asianet FTTH 4mbps 20GB plan which costs Rs900 a month. Now, I have the option to select Asianet or KeralaVision from the same cable. I shifted to KeralaVision 4mbps 22GB Plan of 899 recently. I was told another provider can be also expected. What you have to do is to configure Router for the IP and route or use PPPOE dialer in the router in case of KeralaVision to connect.
This overhead FTTH seems to be available in Kottayam, Ernakulam districts except Kochin.

How frequently do you have outages from Hathway in Bombay?

How good is uptime and service for fivenet?

Also anyone using MTNL in Mumbai - fiber or regular broadband - the prices seem similar - so I assume fiber is not available at all places? How is the uptime?

Any other reliable providers in Chembur, let me know. Airtel is not there - I have talked with Hathway, but also looking for other options.

Carboy
Hi.
Totally unpredictable. Sometimes every 2/4 days and sometimes absolutely no problem for a fortnight or longer.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

Update :

Location : Bangalore
ISP : ACT Broadband

At ~1200/month, they offer speeds of 30Mbps with 50GB of FUP.

They've an offer where if you pay for 12 months in advance, they provide internet for 2 additional months for free & also allow additional 25GB every month as FUP.

Paid : 14,350/-

Reliability : Very very Un-Reliable off late.

There was a downtime for 4 days just earlier this month (12th to 15th), and now again it's down since the last 2 days. Call centres give false promises with 0 guilt.

Moreover, I just came to know that a senior manager there who was my client, to be honest now I've barely any hope of things improving.

Still, *fingers crossed*.

My uptime is 90%. At times if it rains heavily there may be an outage but it all depends on the local company that is managing the network. The company that manages mine is Banyan Tree Management Ltd and they are pretty good.

That is very cheap.
In Pune, 8 Mbps, 15 GB, will cost ₹ 1441 + tax

Which area are you in? I've had ACT for years without any problems but in the past 2 months, there have been some times when the connection just goes off. Thankfully not for long.

Is this one outage which they take a few days to repair or multiple outages?

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

Trying out BSNL FTTH last few days. Excellent speeds holding steady at ~30 Mbps (DL) and ~50 Mbps (UL). On a package of 100GB with 40 Mbps speed. Seems BSNL doesn't enforce FUP from my experience so far. Any ideas?

+1
I've been using ACT for about two and a half years now.
I did have some issues a few months in which was due to the local cable operators meddling with the fiber connections to ACT's switches (The cable wallahs were losing customers to ACT's IPTV service apparently).

But absolutely no issues to report over the last year or so *Touch wood*.

A big advantage with ACT is that in my 2.5 years of being their customer, not once have I had a billing discrepancy (Monetary or FUP).

naveenroy: This outage that you're seeing, does it happen roughly at the same time each day if you leave your router switched on through the day?
If so, its due to ACT forcing a timeout on the session to get you to login again.
ACT do not want us to use their service as an always-on service I'm told

Cheers !

Sundar

Yes, that is true though - there never has been a billing discrepancy. And even when I brought to their notice that they haven't given me the power discount (for using a power connection from my home), they corrected it in their next bill.

And no, I do not see a pattern with the outage.

There is a setting in most routers to reconnect to the provider at a given time. You can use that feature to perform this reconnect without any manual intervention.

Yes. Unfortunately, this BSNL BBG SPEED COMBO ULD 1091 CS70 costing ₹ 1,091 is available in Bangalore only as of now. This will be available in Chennai from 26 August 2015, according to this source. I will opt for this plan for my Chennai home too.

On the ADSL line, they do enforce the FUP. Once the limit is exhausted, they force you to restart, and once re-connected its at the reduced speeds. Thanks to the Win10 upgrade, I have seen it for the last 2 months.

I'm in Ulsoor (Cambridge Road). Same here, barely any downtime in the 4 years I've had it.

They've some issues with the fibre cable being cut by someone constructing a building.

The guy who came to check the box in my building said there's such an issue in Domlur too, and the company is taking it casually. Luckily since he's got experienced since 3 years, he manages to sort things relatively quickly.
