This could very well be a teaser for the launch of BigTV. This particular advert hints at some kind of a Personal Video Recorder STB which is a very good development for us. I have been a TataSky subscriber for about 36 months now and the PVR is something I needed ever since. Also, looking at the recent changes made by TataSky, I am made to beleive that they are going for some dirty games at the expense of the subscribers.

Also, given the fact the BigTV is going to launch HD services within a couple of months, I am planning to shift to BigTV soon.
Hey this turned out to be a teaser ad. for some new serial. Forgot the channel. It was there on the June 15th paper.

Yes, it was not for BigTV or any serial. That advert was for a joint venture between MTNL & Aksh OptiFibre Ltd. for a new IPTV service called iControl. More details can be found here: .: icontrol :.

I saw BIG TV STB's in the shop I had gone to finalise my TV. I asked the owner and he said they had only received the STB's and had no idea / info on the pricing or when it was expected.

Could be soon though I feel.

Aare, here in Shillong. The distributor has received stocks for STBs. The service incharge has been paying his staff for the last one and a half months. All we get to hear is that very soon it will be launched. Its like Anil baba is waiting for some space craft to take him to the satellite and from there he will launch.

Breaking news

Airtel is going to launch its Direct to home services. Pricing has not been disclosed as yet, but services are intended for launch in the coming weeks.

Prospective DTH buyers can probably wait till the launch as Airtel generally has good service levels.

News source is confirmed as I work in the ITES domain.

Cheers

They must be having some information about the launch of new DTH services.

I think its too late for TataSky. I am sure that like me, thousands of other subscribers of theirs will shift to some other operator. They went from good to bad and now from bad to worse in terms of their service.

Airtel is launching its DTH in a couple of months. That is for sure and I am professionally
(not commercially ) associated with them.

I am planning to take the Sun Direct Freedom package in Bangalore. Seems the basic freedom package comes around 1000/- for one year subsrciption and Install charge of 1000/-. You get all free channels in this package. You can top up on this for selected other channels.

Anyone already have this? Any feedback about this around here?

BigTV launch today (19-Aug-2008)

BigTV is being launched today(19-Aug-2008) as per Business Line news paper. Checked the website, there is a change than it was earlier. But, packages/offers are not updated yet.

What I heard:

1. Pay Rs. 1500/- upfront. Includes Installation & STB.
2. Packages initially prices at 120/- per month. Includes all channels.
3. Some talk of 666/- for the first 6 months.
4. STB is HD Ready and has some USB port to connect an external Hard Disk for program recording.

If any of these are true. Then ADAG, here I come.

Under the 'Features' section on the BigTV website (BIG TV), the front and rear images of the set top boxes are given. At the rear, it has component out(Y/Pb/Pr) and also the composite out(Yellow out). There is no HDMI out as of now. Also, there is a USB port option at the rear.
