You will need to jailbreak and add an edge settings patch from cydia to enter the edge settings. 2minute job. Go for the upgrade.

@Tejas : for some reason Airtel GPRS runs pretty slow on my 3GS. Youtube especially is painfully slow. And it seems the phone does not have any EDGE settings option (or I have not been able to find it.)

Any suggestions ?

from your iphone safari, using wifi go to www. unlockit .co.nz (don't put the spaces that i have put in the address here). Enter your airtel settings and download the patch. this will then show in settings - > general

BTW, if you can connect to the net using gprs, that means your settings are fine. your airtel gprs plan is at fault.

Yeah ! Heard about it. And the pricing is supposedly going to be as follows:

iPhone 3gs 16 GB : 31,900
iPhone 3gs 32 GB : 35,900

And another rumor is : Only the white colour is going be launched and iPhone 3G is going to be repriced. I don't believe the "White Colour Only" news !!

I recently upgraded to a 3GS 32 gb and lovin it. I never had old 2.0G or 3G but my friends who had old Iphones played around on mine and kind of liking it allot. Its my first Iphone and I like it but still missing some features of contemporary phones like replying to messages, having different profiles and more freedom to share phone contents. Even bluetooth in 3GS is completely useless, you can't share photos or any other media. Its there only to play multi player games in shared mode. If you have a 3G phone connection and network reception is bad in your area then you'd be charging new Iphone more frequently (as I do ).

Despite all those rant, my Iphone keep me hooked to games all day and I love it for this.

Not being able to reply to messages ? Where did that come from ?

You just start typing in the text box when you open a new msg from a sender. Tap on send and your reply is sent !!
In fact I love iphone's conversational sms format. Add to it the copy-paste functionality !!

Agree about bluetooth though. But it works beautifully with my Punto's blue & me.

Well reading all this I've decided to buy an iPhone. I don't need the 3G, so I'd prefer to go for the older 2G version. In fact there was one available in the classifieds today. This is the first generation phone and it's still locked as the guy was using it in the US. He's asking for 12K. How much should I pay. Can it be easily unlocked? Can I add applications and will it work with a BSNL Sim card. I would like to browse occasionally, so will that be possible with BSNL GPRS. I'm not the techie type so please excuse me if I've asked anything stupid.

I would say 10k. Why ? My colleague bought an unlocked iPhone 2G for 10k

Went yesterday to iStore in Ludhiana. The salesperson there said she has a 3GS if I want. I didn't check, however.

Thanks for the quick reply. Are these prices for unused phones? The phone in question has been used in the US for 2 years and is still locked. So how much will it be worth.

How much did they ask for it. Is 3GS officially launched or they are selling second hand NRI's phones? Am asking this because in Jalandhar its a common trade. NRIs bring insurance claimed new phones with them to India and sell to shops at like half price..

I have joined the gang!

After being part of Blackberry gang for 6 months the temptation was too strong. Been through lot of hassles for shifting from T-Mobile to AT&T for iPhone. Unlocked ones were out of my reach. So finally everything fell in place and after a month's wait I got my black iPhone 3GS 32 gigs. I still have my 8900, I love that phone too!

Wok have updated to the latest firmware 3.1.3, no major difference apart from the snappy feeling you get when you do a restore. Have to check GPS locking since some people mentioned its better in this version.
