I dont think 2G will be launched, since Apple doesnt have any official stock available for the same. Yes 3G will come without network support, is it going to be July 11th or later date cannot be confirmed and would be pure speculation from anyone. July 4th looks like 100% rumor.

When I bought my HTC P3000 for 21K 1 year back, I saw that iPhone was also available (unlocked) without warranty from Wavetel mobile shop. The main drawback of iPhone is that it does not allow 3rd party softwares except Java. If one uses Music & Video 50-70 % and look for a jazzy phone then it is worth to go for iPhone. Already HTC touch is a competition for iPhone, once WM7 is launched with loaded features iPhone has got serious competition.

He said the marketing team has just put the ad no one has any clue on the iPhone launch/price,etc... they will be holding a seminar for the staff this week so will get the low-down then.

This ad is going to have an impact on the current iPhone resale I need to get rid of mine before i buy the 3g.

I wonder how much 3g data plans would cost in India... currently i pay 500rs for 500mb of Edge, 3g would be double?

I hope Vodafone is not going to lock this like AT&T

yup you are right ,because if you can see they aren't providing any written or verbal communication to the customers

This is what we are getting in reply:

Thank you for booking your new iPhone 3G, with Vodafone. We will keep you updated on its price, features and availability in due course.

It will be locked with the exclusive carrier but i think indians know how to deal with these kind of issues.

That's expensive edge plan you are getting for the corporate account ,here in delhi we can get unlimited for Rs.500/, and for corporates the same plan for 200 bucks only!!

It will be locked. No doubt about that. If on the offchance you can get it unlocked officially, then expect to pay around 23-30K. Otherwise Airtel and Vodafone might subsidize the cost of the phone with their new plans.

don't think so we'll be able to get it unlocked issues but as far as i have seen things in india ,these companies think that indians doesn't know much of these tech gadgets hacking and all ,i can assure you as soon as iphone will be launched in india ,we will have the thing hacked !

There is a small problem with unlocking the new iPhone3G. First off, the firmware is new. The unlock will take some weeks to come out. Even if the unlock is available the next day after the launch, the phone contract is a bit of a bother.

I am taking the US AT&T contract as an example.
You are agreeing to a 2 year contract. You provide your credit card details and authorize the carrier to charge you monthly. If you unlock the phone and jump carriers, they will still continue to charge you the money. **

You get the phone and cancel INSIDE 30 days. You will get the money paid and the cancelation will be active ONLY AFTER you give the phone back. So you lose the phone.

You cancel AFTER 30 days, then there is a pro-rated amount that you pay as cancellation amount. You get the phone but it is still locked, I think. **

** You can try to claim that you lave lost the phone, but then you have to change the IMEI code for the phone. The IMEI code change tool has to be released for the new firmware. Also, if your phone picks up any problems, you are screwed, cos the IMEI code is printed on the outside (in old phones) and it would be blacklisted in the service centers.
Please also keep in mind that the carriers may ask for the Police FIR etc, if you claim to have lost the phone or had it stolen etc.

So, the new phone might not be worth unlocking. The old one definitely is

This might all be wrong, so let us wait for the actual release details. cheers:

I would say sheer nonsense. I am sure it would be launched at 2-3x of that figure

Steve Jobs mentioned in his speech that the 8Gb iPhone would be introduced worldwide at $199 (with contract). You can be sure that they would try to get near that amount.

Case in point:
US - $199 with 2 year contract
UK - almost nil, contract
Japan - $215, contract
India - ????, contract

Hope for the best. cheers:
