We already have 1 whirlpool and 1 samsung 1.5 tonners from the last 4-5 years and whirlpool is performing miles ahead of samsung, hence i went for the 2nd whirlpool. Samsung already had it share of problems, gas leak twice, failed compresser to name a few.

Further to the Samsung saga. They want the payment in full before delivery to be deposited at their office. They claim they cannot make a gate pass before receiving full payment in advance.

No more Samsung for me.

And the claims are all bullcrap. If you can send someone to verify about the gate-pass thing.
AFAIK, there shouldn't be any.

Are they so unsure of the work being carried out?

I would suggest no payment until and unless satisfied with A/C's efficiency.

It would be a good question to ask-- What if the A/C doesn't work? AGAIN.

Threaten them to drag to a consumer court etc. See what works.

The compressor make could vary between the type of aircon i.e window and split and then again with in the same type based on the star ratings. Whirlpool generally churns out good quality products so you should not be too worried about what is inside which one, though I cannot say the same about their marketing department after watching their lame advert campaigns year after year.

I agree 100%. The problem is that my friend has only one AC in the house and is stuck in this sultry weather.

I think the only language they understand is if we vote with our chequebooks. Sony had a real bad and cheating service centre in Lucknow/Kanpur and it took them over a decade to recover from it!

Based on this forum's feedback, bought the Whirlpool 1.5 3 Star rated Window machine yesterday. Total damages were 19,200 + 2,000 + 400. Went for the Whirlpool stabilizer, since the company services/ replaces it at your door in case something goes wrong - or atleast that's what the dealer said ;-)

So far so good! Thanks guys for your time and input.

@navan: 1.00 tonne will be insufficient. Also, the power saving is much less than you may presume. A smaller AC means a longer duty cycle!

Well, as luck would have it, I am sittting with a 2 star Bluestar. Someone I know very well, has the sales and service of Bluestar, and that person is known to be a ethical person. So I went with his word, got the 2 star installed. Costed me 19.5K including stabilizer and installation. 5 Years warranty and 1 year replacement warranty.

Re read the fine print the 5 year warranty would be on the compressor not the entire machine unless your friend has managed something special.

5 year if for the comp only. Machine is one year.

This one has a Hitachi Compressor.
