Which small ac??

Hi all,

I need an ac for one of the bedrooms for my flat in Delhi. The size of the room is 10'(W) X 11' (L) X 9' (H). None of the walls is exposed to sun. The room has three doors and one window. The room is going to be used by only one person.

I have following options :-
(a) General 0.8 ton 2 star for 16800/-
(b) Carrier Estrella 1 ton 3 star for 17200/-
(c) Whirlpool Delux 1 ton 2 star for 14553/-

Which one should I go in for? Is 0.8 ton General sufficient for this room? Or is there any other option that i should go in for? Guys advice needed on very urgent basis. AC is required to be fitted by evening.

Thanks for your time.

There is another General arcade in Rohini, in case the above does not work out you could contact them on 27216370; 9312243532.
Thanks you Khoj ,

general dealer is asking 41,000 for ASGA18ACT ( + 2000 fitting + 1500 pipe + 550 Outdoor unit stand ) so the total comes to 45,000 Rs

The Hitachi dealer is around 36,000 for RAU018HQDP + 1500 fitting so total comes to around 38,000 Rs

I have have also looked up VOLTAS Vertis Gold , dealer is asking around 28,000 + 2000 so total comes to around 30,000 Rs

Please note that all these have BEE 5 star rating .

Can you please advise if its voltas should be considered ? I have enclosed the BEE rating

VOLTAS SPLIT AIR CONDITIONER 4501166 3.2 1.5 5270.0(Cooling Capacity) 1650.(Power Consumption )

@Kool_Kid
In that price range you would do better to go with a Whirlpool 5 star rated machine rather than Voltas. Whirlpool machines are a whole lot better and maybe a shade cheaper too.

Try the Rohini guys for a price comparison.

These days 1.5 ton Daikin is available for 38K++++; Daikin inverter 1.5 with R22 gas for 44K++++ and Daikin inverter with the eco friendly R410 gas for 52K+++. The mansarovar guy is quoting somewhat on the higher side.

Ask him for a quote on the Daikin too and another Daikinn dealer too, use this link

@Navneet

Theoretically a 0.8 ton machine should be sufficient if the roof is not exposed to sun and you are not expecting to achieve 22~23 C temperatures in the afternoons. A 1 ton is definitely better as it gives a bit of extra capacity for those extra hot days and also in view of 3 doors!! Entry/exit; bathroom and balcony I presume?

Choose between General and Whirlpool but 1 ton and not the 0.8 and forget the Estrella it is a good machine but not for your service conditions.

Khoj,

Thanks for your reply. However, did not quite get part of answer quoted above. You mean because of the frequent moves ?

@Navneet

I meant the service conditions that exist for the air con in the given room .

Heat loss from three doors, a window, the individual in the room, light fittings and other electric/electronic gadgets all together and the aircon working on its limit all the time. This can be dealt with in a better manner by the units from General and Whirlpool compared to the Carrier machine.

Getting Whirlpool chrome split 3 star at -22500 and Chrome 5 star at 27500.
Its a 1.5T Ac.
Difference is 5k.
And the only difference between them is power usage.

Chrome 3 star uses 223w more than chrome 5 star.

So my Q is is it worth to go for 5star chrome considering my daily ac use is 5-7 hours.
Kindly suggest as need to get it by tommorow.

Also chrome 3star EER- 2.84
Chrome 5 star EER- 3.24

If it is within your planned budget get the 5 star machine.

You will get a machine built with components that have tolerances closer to the design criteria. Results are higher efficiency, smoother operations, longer MTBF/service life and maybe better finish on the indoor units face plate.

Edit Silent running maybe! check the dB values on the spec sheets of the 2 machines.

Hi Khoj,
I have decided to buy the O Gen 2 tonner split.Went to the dealer and got further confused.He gave me a brochure which has 3 models ASG24A,ASGA24AET,ASG24ACT .I checked at compareindia.com,but it shows only one 2 ton model in wall split ASG24A.now there is mismatch of specification betwn compareindia/khoj on one hand and OG brochure on the other.
BTU/hr 24000 as against 25300
running current A 11.8 as against 11.1
power consumption 2700 as against 2400
EER 2.7 kW/KW (???) as against 10.54

None of the models given in brochure matches the specification of compareindia

PLZ clarify my confusion Khoj

ASG24A is a long running model from General that has been around since eternity. All of the units mentioned by you are 2 ton rating that is evident from the nomenclature. The last two digits may be for new models from the 2010 range. Check the regular model in the link :: Welcome to the OGENERAL AIR CONDITIONERS ::: and confirm visual differences/similarities between this and the models in your brochure.

Can you scan the brochure and post it here.
