Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Looks like the Xiaomi actually did what I thought no serious company will do. More so when you know people have a general wariness about Chinese brands. I would have assumed that they will let the gravi train run and build up a base. In the meantime if they have capacity constraint they should have thought of building up their manufacturing capacity and then think of introducing other products. But no! They just decided to kill their golden goose and hunt for a new one!!! How silly is that?

Think of it... now people will wonder, did I make a mistake by buying this phone? As it stands now they have already upgraded the Mi3 to Mi4 in China and other markets. So people knew in the back of their minds that the Mi3 might be in sunset phase. Now suddenly Xiaomi decided to withdraw the phone after just 5 weeks. On top of that, they hardly have many service centers in India. Anyhow they dont have a brick and mortar shops selling this brand. So everything is virtual. And now the phone does a vanishing act!

If I were a potential buyer of a new phone (which I am) I will be extremely wary of this brand now.

Is this confirmed news or just hearsay from the internet buzz?

I'm hoping that I'll never ever need to visit a service center. I'm very happy with the phone but the way things are supposedly going, it's going to be bad for Xiaomi and flipkart IMO. How many buyers will end up queuing up for xiaomi products now, given their business model, me thinks.

As per International Business Times:

Xiaomi Mi3 Sale in India Temporarily Suspended; Company Shifts Focus to Redmi 1S

Technology blog, BGR India got in touch (via e-mail) with Xiaomi India head of operation Manu Jain over the issue. In reply, on Wednesday, he said, "We are focusing on Redmi 1S for the coming few weeks, we will take a call on Mi 3 post that. Please do stay tuned to our Facebook page for more information."

My take on the crappy (or at least fragile) build quality from OEMs is they arm-twist you into spending money on their overpriced accessories to protect your precious and already overpriced phone, it's a whole industry by itself. They aren't getting any of my cash though, I wouldn't bother with these feet either, if the S3 had a textured back-plate like the original Galaxy Ace phone, instead of a paper-thin scratch magnet.
Definitely. In fact accessory sales are way more lucrative even for stores. Samsung especially has taken the flimsy build thing too far... And in the long run they are paying the price for IT, with even much smaller Chinese manufacturers offering much better build and looks. I absolutely can't stand scratches and I'm not fond of accessories. So any brand that invests in scratch resistant materials to gets my vote.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi All,

I have a Samsung Grand Quattro white which I listed last night on quicker for non negotiable price - 10,000/-. It was purchased on 21 March 2014 for 15.2 k and is with bill.
Also as Quattro will never get a Kit kat update.

Now I have a potential inquiry.

New purchase by me will be two numbers of Redmi 1S.

Please advise, two yes and it goes this evening.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Check realworld performance of redmi 1S with two active SIMs and enough apps.

1GB is less for latest MIUI IMHO. My simple games (such as flick golf) stutter badly on S3 (1.4 Ghz quad core, similar to redmi 1S) with MIUI but they flew on Defy with 512 MB RAM and 2012 MIUI.

Samsung Galaxy K zoom price slashed by 10,000! From 30k to 20k.

Don't what can make a manufacturer drop price of a product by this huge margin.

Is this phone worth buying? Anybody using it?

Samsung has pretty long history of doing that, not every manufacturer. Most of the Samsung phones are way too much overpriced and not worth, even after slashing the price.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Guys,

Need to buy a phone for my sister. Budget is 12k-16k. Basic requirements - Whatsapp, Facebook and Gmail apps and not much of gaming. I know Mi3 is quite popular but I want to know the suggestions apart from that. Few which I could get were:

-Moto G (16GB)
-LG L90
-Samsung Quattro
-Samsung Grand Neo
-Lenovo S850
-HTC Desire 616
-Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini

Would love to know from experts here which one would be a good option. Let me know if I have missed any other options.
