I use this one. Good quality and fits perfectly. Only negative adds a bit of weight. And I got a reusable screen guard from croma.

Currently I am on SBF ROM of Froyo (India) on my Defy. Everything is working fine right now. But I am spoiling for an adventure I suppose.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi, i am buying my first android phone so need advice. Budget is 20-25k. I am keen on buying the HTC Desire S, fits in my budget and is a pretty good phone. Other options i'm considering are:

1. LG Optimus 2X-Not sure how good it is. Anyone here has it ?
2. Motorola Defy-its got an 800mhz processor vs the 1ghz of the Desire S how future proof is it ?

I've ruled out Galaxy Ace and S as i need a phone with flash. Any other options i can consider?
3.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Ah, everything gets complicated for me.

Quote:
- Install 2nd Init Recovery Installer 1.4
- Turn USB Debugging OFF
- Reboot your device 2 times
- Copy CM7 Beta 6, Google Apps 2.3.4 (market, gtalk, etc.), FixBrightness.zip and Battery_step.zip to your SD Card
- Reboot your device, when the blue led lights at Motorola logo, press Volume Down to enter Bootmenu
I don't get blue led lights at Motorola logo. If I press volume down anyway, I got to a screen with only the android mascot with construction symbol on its head. I recalled it from the froyo upgrade time. But the lower right bottom press doesn't work either.

Dang! One more documentation flaw. I installed the 2ndInit app from the market. But I was supposed to run the app to actually install it. You install the app and then install it to the boot by running it.

Anyway, I am on Gingerbread now!

PS: For some reason I am stuck at Backup and Restore which launched itself!

I had inquired before buying mine I guess it was around 18XXX in the market. You can check the latest price in the stores, I am sure the online deal is still the best.
I just took a walk and found out the prices at Hyd:

MobileStore: Rs 17300

Croma: Rs 18900

Therefore letsbuy with the coupon still saves me more than a 1000 bucks.

Congrats. Don't expect delivery in 2 days - these guys order in fits/starts. I work 10km from their office. I got delivery in 6 (calendar) days, while mumbai guys got it in <48 hours. So if they're out of stock - assume a week max.

Remember to close the cover properly - like Samurai has mentioned (and other sites have suggested)
Thanks for the advice, brother. But I have not ordered it yet---I am just excited about the thought of ordering it. I might decide in a couple of days.

Optimus 2x if you are willing to spend. Desire S doesn't compare. Look up its online reviews - its a VERY good phone for the money!

oh congrats. You are on gingerbread or in custom recovery. You should have chosen 2nd init as the default boot method. else it'll keep booting into itself and thereon u go into backup/restore.

Which version of GB - beta6 or nightly? btw you are supposed to wipe cache/data after you put CM7.

Ihave updated the instructions now - I had myself made the same mistake 1st time around

@vnabhi - Good - so let us know how it goes.

I just followed the steps given here: [FAQ] Cyanogenmod 7 by Quarx - xda-developers

Quote:
- Turn USB Debugging ON
- Root via SuperOneClick
- Reboot
- Install 2nd Init Recovery Installer 1.4 (For a safe install, use 1.4 or bootmenu 0.6.1) (see 10)
- Turn USB Debugging OFF
- Reboot your device 2 times
- Copy CM7 Beta 6, Google Apps 2.3.4 (market, gtalk, etc.), FixBrightness.zip and Battery_step.zip to your SD Card
- Reboot your device, when the blue led lights at Motorola logo, press Volume Down to enter Bootmenu
- Go to "Set Default Bootmode" then select [2ND-INIT]
- Go to "[Custom Recovery] start"
- Select "wipe cache partition" then "wipe data/factory reset"
- Select "install zip from sdcard", "choose zip from sdcard", then select "update-cm-7.1.0-jordan-beta6-signed"
- Select "choose zip from sdcard", then select "gapps-gb-20110503-signed.zip"
- Select "choose zip from sdcard", then select "FixBrightness.zip"
- Select "choose zip from sdcard", then select "Battery_step.zip"
- Select "+++++Go Back++++++" then "reboot your system now"
Now wait and CM7 will be loaded.
Anything missing here?

I am on Gingerbread, build number GRJ22, which is Beta 6 I suppose.

Swype from Update 2011-05-20: Swype for CM7 and MIUI - xda-developers

or you can log onto beta.swype.com

Wipe is required if while booting it hangs - good it wasnt needed in your case - as I checked personally by calling you up - congrats

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

@phamilyman: Its not so much of a stretch. Sangeetha quoted 26k. What i a worried about is the reliablity and the aftersales support. None of my friends have ever owned a high-end LG phone so got no feedback on it.
