re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

@Samurai---that was a fantastic and realisitic narration. I too lost a mobile in a theater---but that was a cheap phone that cost me Rs 4000. Even then it pinched me, and made me hesistate from splurging hard-earned money on such gizmos.

The current availability of andriod phones in the 12 to 20 K bracket is what attracted me.

1> I've also read of GPS issues, but i know a couple of people who have the GS and they have no issues...
when checking GPS stats, a friend used to get upto 41 on the signal strength on his GS, My phone [Motorola Milestone] peaked at 47.

2> The GSL I9003 has a lower end GPU and an SLCD screen:
a> It lags slightly more than the I9000
b> There is not much MOD support [Overclocking, Custom ROMS, et al] for the I9003 where as there is fairly large MOD support for the I9000.
If you're a power user get the GS, not the GSL. if you're a basic user 5K more for slightly better performance is not worth it.

There are MANY custom ROMs out there.
i'm running CyanogenMod7 on my Motorola Milestone.

i'm getting better Battery life, better performance, better interface, though i'm having some stability issues, but the Pros out weigh the Cons. [for me atleast]

Caution: I'm a fan of the GS and the GS2. I think they've changed the game without bowing down to service provider pressure. They release all their phones with unlocked bootloaders. This gives the user FULL control to do what he wants to. My opinions are bound to be pro the GS & GS2

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Question for 2nd Init:

It says
------------
Install 2nd Init Recovery Installer 1.4
- Turn USB Debugging OFF
- Reboot your device 2 times
------------

What does reboot 2 times mean?

On reboot, I am presented with options like
- boot (set default, normal, 2nd init, 2nd boot..)
- System
- Recovery
- Tools
- Reboot

I have chosen Reboot 2 times and every time it reboots into the same menu again.

What needs to be selected in the options please??

Now you select boot -> normal. Then copy the files into SD card.

Can any XCD35 users comment on the camera quality of this phone... esp. how it compares with the Optimus 1's cam?

The GPU is PowerVR SGX530 (SL) vs 540 (S). You suffer a bit in pure GPU performance but nothing you'd worry in regular usage.

@netarchie - go for it. let us know.

@khan bhai - if u already have the files on your SD card - then you can just reboot twice - then from bootmenu go to custom recovery and flash CM7. Done!
Motorola Defy Ownership | FreeRiding - step 9 where it says: - Go to "Set Default Bootmode" then select [2ND-INIT]

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

^
I tested the two recently and found the XCD35 to be better. However, please note that this can be entirely due to XCD's better resolution and bigger screen.
Haven't seen their images on a computer to get a fair idea.
Just a thought - Why these two? Neither is known for their camera quality. I think the Galaxy Fit comes with a 5 MP camera (not sure about AF).

@Samurai
I know this is super OT, but is water damage covered under phone insurance?

It was one year insurance given by the dealer Sangeeta. I think it covered all kind of damages including water.

here you go. images directly with no mods from stock camera of dell xcd35. i dont know how optimus snaps them.

but the photos are just average. good in day light. bad in night. autofocus does just an average job.

if you are just targetting the camera feature this phone isnt for you

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

My Galaxy S2 is out for delivery ... YEPPIEE... Should be delivered by Monday. Will be getting the Phone with the Free Bluetooth headset. And I shall receive the HDTV Adapter, Screen Guard and MoLife Fit Case around the 14th. Here is the email I got a couple of days ago.

Only wish the OTG USB Adapter was included in the bundle, but we'll try to source it from somewhere else in a few days.

P.S: Any pre-orders after 31st May would not be coming with the Bluetooth headset as its out of stock, rest is the same.

@TOR: My vote is to 'No', screen-protectors are not required. i have been using the Nokia N86 8MP (one of the first handsets with the Gorilla Glass) for atleast 2 years and my wife is using the Moto Quench XT3 for 9 months and No scratches at all. This is after a todler in the house playing games on them.
