Hope I don't have issues with maps/ gps though I rarely use them on the phone. |
The update was smooth and easy. SE for a change came with wonderful step by step methodology that was easy to follow. Few clicks and bingo, data was backed up and phone upgraded to 2.1
I messed up the back up part. I forgot to enable backing up the android market applications (left that unticked I guess). Normally, it doesn't back up the application but it is supposed to make a note in your android account as to what is installed. So when you get on to market after the upgrade, it is supposed to point out that all these are available so that they can be re-installed.
I had to literally scratch my head to get the names of all market applications. Except my old call recorder, managed to get everything back!
Restoring other data was a breeze! One click and bang, got back all settings (including wallpaper and ringtones set for individual contacts, messages, mails etc), contacts, call / message logs everything as it was!
Also the upgraded phone looks and functions smoothly. Got a cracker of a game called angry birds and am loving it.
The flip side, battery life has taken a mega hit. I used to have standby time of over 2 days with 1.6. Now I see that 6 hours since last charge and my phone is on the verge of shutting off with less than 5% battery juice. Made one call and kept gprs on for 2 hours just to let my wife check whether she could track me after an upgrade over latitude.
Just yesterday, I had gprs on for tracking all the way from Diveagar to Pune through khopoli late in the evening after using the phone for 10 hours in the day since last charge. I still had juice to take me till morning without charge.
I notice that the display is using up 60% of the battery juice. If this goes like this, then I'll have to start carrying a spare battery and a wall charger. Strange. But I'm glad that I have 2.1 now and trust me, it rocks.
SE xperia x10 mini pro has made me very very happy. With this 2.1 I got Adobe acrobat reader as well from market. So no more trial versions (that I used with 1.6). Way to go SE!

I'm not sure about X10. Mine's an X10 mini pro. They've rolled out 2.1 for both mini and mini pro. You might not get an update message as they wouldn't have tied up with indian network providers. Try using the update option in your phone and have it connected to net through wifi. If there's update available, it will prompt you to connect to a laptop and give you steps to follow for the upgrade. That was the simplest thing I've done in recent past!
