Functionality and presented use-cases are almost same as Samsung Galaxy tab.

Any idea about price and availability of this.

If that's the case, Galaxy 3 should be upgradable to this OS, and hence able to use SD card for apps. Right ?
You are right Android 2.2 is Frozen Yoghurt aka FroYo. But I am not sure whether Galaxy 3 will get the update. Most likely it will not!

@joe1980. This is what I did.

setup - about phone - software update.

Had my wifi on and got a message that updates are available for my phone. Was asked to connect to a computer and proceed.

I connected my phone to the computer and had sony ericsson pc companion installed.
The clicked on the software update.

It asked me to first back up my data and then ensure I had atleast 50% battery juice left

So I disconnected the USB, mounted the sd card and backed up my phone.

Then connected the USB cable and hit the update button.

If I remember correctly, it asked me to switch off the phone after some time and then re-insert the usb cable while having the back button pressed

Then I released the back button when the upgrade screen prompted me to.

Voila, after 15 mins the firm ware upgrade was done.

I let all the services run and had to restore my back up from the sd card.

Initially the phone on full charge dischared in 6 hours to my shock!

Tweaked the settings a bit and after couple of charge, this monster is simply unbelievable.

25 hours and some minutes since last charge, my phone showed 5% battery remaining. I had gprs running for over 20 hours, music for 3 hours, youtube for 15 - 20 mins, wifi for 3 hours and angry birds for over an hour! It's a dream run.

@vjabraham. Unfortunately for the xperia x10 mini pro, there's no 2.2 coming up. The hardware can support only till 2.1 and that I have now!
So the other way is to root the phone and there are applications that help install things on sd card! You don't need a froyo for that!

I was talking about doing it without rooting the phone as I believe most people prefer not to root the phone atleast till the warranty is over. In fact even I was tempted many a time to root my legend. But decided to wait it out for the original update from HTC.

Yes, even I upgraded my X10 Mini Pro to Android 2.1. Everything was just automatic once you install the PC Companion. I feel that the phone now is peppy.

Thanks MX6 for the help. Even before I could read your post, I've got my phone upgraded. But it is worthy to be written down here for anyone who would also need such an upgrade.

Folks, Can the Galaxy 3 be upgraded to 2.2? If yes, then for corporate mail does one really need Touchdown?

I am a newbie to android and i am looking for a android phone here, for use in India. I am getting good deals for HTC HD2 here in US. Price quoted being around $250/-(approx. 11K INR)

Is this a good deal? Can i go for it?

Please advice.

I use the T-mobile HD2 with Win mo 6.5 (energy rom). It is also my primary GPS (I use iGO). Android works on HD2 quite well but drains battery faster than windows. All other features work well on android but it is not 100% stable yet. I am in phoenix and I got mine for less than $200 in craigs.

The video recording is really smooth.

There are too many to list. Samsung Galaxy, Nexus one and if you like qwerty you can try the Google G2, mytouch slide etc... Everything can be unlocked and used in India. Certain Androids will require gmail sign in after hard reset or when you turn on for the first time (You need the android plan enabled on your sim to pass thru this screen). There is a workaround for this which lets you sign in using wifi instead of 3g. So just be aware of that. The HD2 runs android from SD card and it will not require any gmail sign on while booting.
