Not everyone was in favour of me purchasing Dell's XCD35 for my wife about 8-10 months back but I'm glad that I did.

Defy+ has decent specs for my needs and the best part is it being water/dust/scratch resistant so I don't really have to care for it too much. I'd want to buy it unless there's a better phone for the same price or someone tells me something that I'm not aware of yet.

Just this part man. Its weird. They have not really closed India operations - the only source remains the BGR.in report. Them closing the software/backend i can understand - shutting down sales in India makes little sense - but go only knows.

Now if they close operations, you would still get service, but things become dicy.

THAT is the only issue.

The hardware is absolutely brilliant for the price.

else you also have the nokia lumia 610 which was available cheap, earlier:
http://superdeals.homeshop18.com/nok...per-superdeal/ - or even the omnia W man. What battery performance!!

I want an android just so that I have enough apps to keep me entertained. So Nokia/omnia are out of picture.

I tried looking for other phones in the range of about 15k but none compared to Defy+. Unless there's a phone comparable to Defy+, even upto 16k I could consider but I'm not able to find any.

Go to the "Layers" and select Traffic to get the travelling route with Traffic , un check it for Traditional view.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Finally upgraded my Defy green lens to JB. I am now on the latest nightly from Quarx.
The phone is working now on some sort of steroids. It is too early to comment on the battery usage, but I have been playing since afternoon. I also tried Google Navigation with Voice and it beats Sygic hands down.
One thing I am sorely missing is the option to customize the top toggle/ notification pull down menu.
I can see BT, Wireless, GPS and Speaker icons. I don't need wireles, but I do need Data in there. Somehow I am not able to find the setting to add that icon or perhaps it is not there in the build.

Google Now seems to be OK. It cannot understand most of what I say, but I really won't be using it much in any case.

edit: found the control widgets under System settings. Now, I am happy.

How's Unofficial AOKP JB alpha.

The 'Full AOSP' for Defy is still some time away otherwise I guess that would become the de facto for people wanting to flash a custom ROM.

Or should I just flash CM9/ICS? Is that kind on the battery?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Sygic was naving away nicely today --- until an incoming call came in. It swapped to the phone screen and froze, although both ringing and nav voice continued.

I had to take the batter out to restart :(

Join the club. This used to be a very common problem in Sygic in its earlier days (of ver 7, 8 etc). I'm truly surprised they still haven't patched this up till now.

I remember I too had faced this (and some FC too) once a call would come during navigation. But that was on G-Ace and I thought the hardware was incapable to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Just moved to MIUI Wajk Gingerbread. The clock is showing Cairo time (GMT +2) instead of India time (GMT +5.5). What is wrong here?

It's version 12 now. I suppose I should google for this and follow it up.

A few hours later...

Ahh, the exact thing on the Sygic support site here.

And similar here.

It was the timezone, the first time ever I had to set the timezone back to India to fix the time. It doesn't pickup from network time.

Now the battery charges only up to 39% percent, even after keeping it charging whole night. This is getting tiring.

My budget is around 25K, but I would like to try out a 'less than 5K' device for 6 months to get used to it. (prior experience with electronic devices made me wise )

Flashed the unofficial CM10 based JB ROM on my Ace last night. I am facing some serious battery drain. Anyone else flashed this?

I know its still a W-I-P ROM and certain things aren't working but I never anticipated this much drain. Any ideas?

Is it just the novelty factor?

Your phone is not going into deep sleep. Something is using CPU. Why not try CPU spy + better battery stats to figure out whether its an app, or the kernel itself which is causing drain?
