You can look at HTC wildfire S. It's a small sweet but powerful girlish phone.

I saw the price of NeoV in Flipkart as 18K. How come that is as cheap as Gen1 Defy in eBay?

Of course it is, but I am turned down by its specifications.

/these are the white ones. they are slow moving so dealers are cutting their margins i guess, they're selling for around 14k. while the blue ones are around 17k
Edit: the 14k ones are imported. so avoid them

And now that you already have an android, why not try a windows phone?the omnia W?

Thats because it most likely has dealer warranty. So the deal will save you money if you are lucky to get a piece without defects. But if you do, and need to claim warranty, you loose.

Can I buy an Android meeting these criteria under or around 10K?

I know there was Blade / Dell XCD35 but I think that is no longer available.
Why don't you look at Windows Phone? Samsung Omnia W is selling for 14k on buytheprice.com. It's a real steal. As this is for your wife, she will appreciate the out of the box experience of WP on that gorgeous 3.7inch Super AMOLED screen.

Yes, but you were not able to play music from market itself even though you bought it from there. Same goes for movies. You had to run an app to listen or watch. That is what i am trying to say. You can now listen to music as soon as you buy it right from Google Play. You didn't have to go to Google music to listen to it. Same goes for ebookstore.

Market was just to purchase apps, music and movies. Not to play. Now you can play immediately and that is where Google Play comes into picture. It integrates everything.

Burying a windows phone is a real good idea. Omnia W seems just suitable wrt most of the requirements and price.

I completely agree, also by the time you get bored with windows, there may be an android port and then android all the way. I have seen many with htc HD2 who use windows for some days and after that port android.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I am facing a wierd problem with my SGS2 - I am not able to use it as a Mass storage device. When I connected it for the first time all was well and I transferred content from my laptop to the phone. Now when I try to do it it connects but nothing happens. Usually you get a USB sign in windows but not here. A normal pen drive is working so the USB port of the laptop is not faulty. Need help please! Not able to transfer content to my phone is really frustrating!

Looks like a USB driver issue, try googling Galaxy S II USB driver and download it and install it. Or download the latest KIES and install the USB drivers. This should fix your problem.

Try connecting it on another computer and see if it works.

Did you mess with the USB connection settings in the phone?
Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-20120308_110450.jpg

And as suggested, try to connect it with another PC as well.

Did you install any ICS custom ROM? Then it is known issue.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Good news - Found a solution which worked! In fact when I googled this issue I was surprised to find so many users reporting this issue. Finally I came across a S2 forum and one of the users there suggested this (Source:http://www.galaxys2forums.com/samsun...atter-what/30/:

1. Either install latest Kies OR just install compatible USB drivers
2. Before connecting the phone, open the keypad and dial *#7284#
you will see a menu for UART and USB.
3. Under USB, select PDA. If PDA is already selected, select MODEM and then back to PDA

I tried it and viola! It was working! I hope my phone does not pop up the same error again and again.

This is the solution what I got at most places on searching. But I did not want to install KIES after hearing so much negative about it.

From where do we set this? For USB I think there are only two things - One in Settings>Wireless>USB utilities and the other one is Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging.

I've landed a HP TouchPad 32GB. Planning to install CM9 on it once I've got bored of WebOS. Will keep posted.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Yesterday, I got a notification for app updates, on checking, it replaces my Android Market app with Google Play Store.

So looks like Google is replacing Android Market with Play Store. Weird name for an app store.

One company, one store: Why Google axed Android Market for Google Play

The Google Market app no longer works & is removed from the phone.

Has anyone else got this update?
