Hi folks, I need your suggestion on what AMT hatch to buy. Was looking at Alto K10 AMT & Celerio AMT. The car will only be for city use.
I too am in the same soup as to which one to buy, incidentally I am from Hyderabad too.

Looking at the conditions you have mentioned, I feel Alto K10 VXi which is coming at 4.9L OTR in Hyderabad.

As my thoughts are prevailing, car would be ONLY used in the city for commute locally bearing safety features can be given a miss though I am actually inclined at ZXi variant of the Celerio but it hasn't been launched.

So choices look at Alto K10 VXi AMT. That's my suggestion to you.

Both the mentioned cars have excellent service support and the general belief is that Marutis, more or less provide a relatively trouble-free ownership. You can't really go wrong with either. I'd say don't skip out on the safety features, wait for the ZXi AMT Celerio to enter the market; that should hopefully have airbags and ABS.

Anurag, don't skimp on safety. Wait it out for the ZXi. One of the major reasons why I'm going to the German brand for the new car; and that might be an automatic too!

Cheers!

I am not wanting to skimp but the wait is going long and long.

No correct information as to when will the ZXi variant come in the Celerio. Tired if waiting actually.

I had actually booked and Rs 5000 as booking amount for Celerio VXi AMT in Red colour but I myself cancelled the moment I got the update on teamBHP that a ZXi version is expected in April month.

Hi Anurag,

Thanks for the reply. With the current traffic in Hyderabad - an AMT is a must ! Yes, it is coming at about Rs.4.9 lakh for Alto K10 AMT.

Do you know some of the better Maruti dealers in Hyderabad ? Varun Motors has the most branches I think. Also Mithra & Autofin. I have absolutely no idea which Maruti dealers are good for both sales and service in Hyderabad ?

Also, do you have an idea about the waiting time for the Alto K10 AMT in Hyderabad ? I was debating as to whether it's faster if you buy a Maruti using their NRI option as opposed to to buying directly locally ?

Hi Cartman,

Yes, I would prefer ABS & airbag - but it's not available in the Alto K10 AMT. As for your Celerio AMT suggestion - I have read in these forums that the Celerio AMT is rougher and it's shifts are not as smooth and are jerky compared to the cheaper K10 AMT. A lot of folks were surprised by this - they were assuming the Celerio AMT to be smoother but infact it was the opposite inspite of K10 AMT being the cheaper car. Hence , my thoughts were towards K10 AMT. Can you please advise on this ? Thanks !

Varun Motors, Begumpet is the best in Sales.

Waiting currently is 2 months irrespective of the colour.

Buying here locally is better and faster. Recommended I must say.

Re: Which Automatic Hatch?

Thanks Anurag for the reply and the link . I am planning to go with the Tango Orange and if not Fire Red. Reason being- just want the car to be easily identifiable in a sea of silvers and whites especially for a car as common as the Alto.

Dont think Orange is that common compared to other colors. But it depends on availability, I guess.

So, did you just email Varun Begumpet initially or did you go to their local office directly? Reason I ask is - currently I am not in India - will be there in May/June- but wanted to get the process started so that when I reach Hyderabad- I will be close to delivery time.

With the online NRI option - you can pay the entire amount online itself. So, i was not sure if that would help or hinder .

My dad and I did go to the dealership and seal the deal.

I am not sure of the NRI Option though.

If you want to initiate the process and get the closer to delivery time when you are back in India, why not ask any of your relations/friends to go and pay the booking amount (Rs 5000).

Would be better IMO.

Will try that. The Varun Motors website still does not list the Alto K10 AMT option. So, the final price you got - 4.9 lakh - did it include everything - like tax, insurance, ext warr etc. And do they do all the registration paperwork and other paperwork or do we need to it ourselves ? Will follow up further on this on the other "what car I bought" thread you posted on.

Did you test drive the K10 AMT or the Celerio AMT ? Personally, for me , looking at the pics online - the Celerio doesnt seem to be that much of an upgrade to the K10. Plus the K10's interior looks more modern and contemporary.

Options I may add on - would be leather seating and if possible a rearview camera.

Yup, 4.9L OTR is the price inclusive of everything except the accessories!

I feel the Alto K10 is a better proposition as compared to the Celerio even though the Celerio is more upmarket. I didn't TD the Celerio yesterday but will be doing it for fun.

Re: Which Automatic Hatch?

So, now that the Nano Twist AMT is out - what do you folks say ? I was finalizing the Alto K10 AMT but this new Nano AMT changes the equation a little bit. The Nano's interior looks pretty decent with good features. The big unknown will be how it drives & reliability. Bookings though are open I think with Rs.5000.

So, now I think I will wait to see the reviews on Nano AMT. The OTR price currently for the highest Nano trim level is about Rs.3 Lakhs. I am thinking another Rs.50,000 to the AMT version. And that Damson Purple color option on the Nano is good !! Helps to stand out in a crowd of boring silvers and whites !

Let's wait and see !! Tata may have a sales success or a disaster here with the Nano AMT !

Why not book both the Nano AMT and Alto K10 AMT that are retailing at Rs 5000 each as booking amounts. I am sure that there will be some waiting period for the Nano. For the Alto it is 2-3 months so best is to book and be in queue.

By the time your turn is come for delivery you can form an opinion and finalise the car you need. Do take TD of both cars back-to-back and then decide.

I am waiting for the delivery of my Brick Red Alto K10 VXi AMT.

Yes- that is a very good suggestion - thanks. The Nano AMT I think will be available for test drives and reviews on May 1st. I saw that you you had a booking amount on the brick red ! So, do you plan to TD the Nano or are you confirmed with the Alto ? For the Nano - there are 3 Tata dealers in Hyderabad - Concorde, Mallik,Tejaswi - do you have any info on which dealer is good ?

The problem with tata has always been their poor service departments especially for non commercial customers unlike Maruti. Nano does has some advantages over Alto - higher seating position, more ground clearance and interior space. I always believe competition among car manufacturers is good - because it is a win win for the customer as they get a better product.

Alto it is. Nano was never an option on the list.

Of the the dealers I feel Concorde to be the better. Malik too has good feedback.

OK. Just a query. Why was the Nano never an option ? Is it because of poor reliability or performance or service network ? I always thought Tata cars were a little shoddy than Maruti. Not sure if they have improved over time. My perception may be out of reality though.

Because the reviews over here say that - Nano is more spacious than Alto & also that it has a good AC and other features. I also am still leaning towards the Alto unless the new Nano's reviews are excellent.

We did visit Malik cars yesterday for enquiring about the Nano AMT but these guys seemed least interested in even talking.

We didn't mind cancelling the booking of the Alto and going for Nano but things don't seem to work for me with any other manufacturer other than Maruti.

Reasons to rule out Tata:

1) Overall sales experience,
2) Overall Reliability and
3) After sales.

We have no grudge against the Nano, Tata are the ones who need to improve.
