That is disappointing. Only 90 horses, why are all Ford cars anaemic when compared to competition ?

My Swift with RD box puts out 90 HP in P2 mode.

They should bring in a more powerful 110/120 HP diesel.

Forget the power, I hope the turbo lag is comparable to the duster 85. Havent read up on reports of the Fiesta diesel 90 mill.

The New Fiesta diesel has absolutely no lag. Its a beauty to drive and so is the Duster 85.
I have driven both and hence can comment on the same.

Brilliant. Then adding a tuning box should take the power well north of hundred horses. That should do for most of us.

Why are you folks talking about BHP number from the oil burners? Leave that for the petroheads

The 1.5 TDCi in the New Fiesta is very good, very linear and almost NIL turbo lag. Its setup perfectly for driveability!

I would be happy the way those engines are. Really dont want to sacrifice their brilliant linear power delivery to the lag that may get introduced by a tuning box.

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

I have been reading lots of reviews of the Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost. My guess is that the Ecosport's performance levels will be pretty similar as the Kerb weight of the Ecosport is close to the Focus (Around 1200 kgs).
It seems like a brilliant engine to drive. Even the Americans / Europeans are raving about the power, driveablity and the soundtrack of this engine.

Here are a few reviews of the Focus Ecoboost to whet your appetite (for the engine).

Anachronix - amidst all these Pertol-Diesel price difference, the burden of owning a petrol car, et all, your comment about the 1.5 TDCi's 90 HP debate made my day

And yes, having test driven the Fiesta TDCi, I can vouch for its drivability anyday. Just 90 horses, but well trained, well mannered horses they are!

: I used to love the maddening rush of torque, induced by the turbo lag. But my crush on turbo lags was crushed, after driving the Hyundai Elantra CRDi (terrible turbo lag) and the Vento Tdi (No turbo lag like the Fiesta) for a road trip to a hill station. The Vento was far easier and immensely more enjoyable to drive on the slopes of the hill station, whereas the Elantra needed gear changes very frequently! A car without turbo lag would be so much more enjoyable, after your honeymoon period with the car is over.

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

I was planning to go for a SUV (a compact SUV to be particular). Duster was launched, took a test drive of this bull. Awesome driving experience but I am a little skeptical about the *** as there is only 1 dealer in the entire state (Odisha). I am also a little worried about the spare prices as one of cousins who is an owner of Renault Logan, changed his rear righthand side manual window glass operating machine had to pay Rs. 11,000/-. Rs. 11,000/- for a manual window machine is really exorbitant.

Then came Mahindra Quanto. Took a test drive of this car but hated the way she behaved on the road. Bumpy drive and the body roll didn't give me that confidence to drive even more than 10 KMs. Qaunto - Ruled out.

Now, waiting for Ford Ecosport. I don't know whether its worth waiting for. I had a ford earlier (2005). A Ford Ikon 1.6 NXT. That was an awesome car but the spares were priced too high. I believe, they have, now, Indianised, some parts and the prices of the spares have come down. Though I am not in a hurry, if Ford will launch the SUV in 3-4 moths from now then I can wait for that else I can go for some other SUV.

I will be happy if some expert can guide me on this.

Drive safe.

I know this is off the topic, but I tend to defer a little bit here. Compared to classic Fiesta , the turbo lag is little bit visible here. If I am remembering correctly, the turbo kicks in @ 1350 RPM in case of New fiesta where as in classic fiesta, the turbo kicks in at 1200 RPM. But the new Fiesta also far better than Fiat engines and Hyundai engines in terms of Turbo lag.

Turbo lag might be less (and the RPM at which it kicks-in is subjective), but the maximum torque delivery of Ford's 1.5 TDCi is still at a highish 2000 RPM (till 2750 RPM) - as compared to say VW's TDi, with torque peaking from just 1500 RPM (till 2500 RPM). Also the torque & power of this engine (in this state of tune) is the least amongst the competition (i.e. Linea, Rapid, Vento, Verna).

Though for the Eco Sport, it is a competitive engine vis-a-vis Renault's 1.5 K9K (85 BHP version atleast) in the Duster - rest it all depends on the pricing.

^^^ Ford's 1.5L 90bhp diesel does has turbo-lag, but, it is not as pronounced as the Fiat's MJD. I have driven both (90bhp TDCi & 90bhp MJD), & can confirm that the former is superior in this deptt.

In Argentina and Brazil specs, does the length mentioned (4241) includes spare wheel?
