re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Price comparison with Baleno
Glanza G MT - 7,21,900
Baleno Delta MT - 7,25,412
Glanza V MT - 7,58,200
Baleno Alpha MT - 7,58,212
Glanza G CVT - 8,29,900
Baleno Zeta CVT - 8,29,912
Glanza V CVT - 8,90,200
Baleno Alpha CVT -8,90212
All prices ex showroom Delhi, taken from Nexa website.

If we consider the prices then G MT is probably based on "Delta" MT smart hybrid but G CVT is based on "Zeta" CVT. Baleno Zeta MT smart hybrid is 7,86,000, which is much higher than Glanza G MT smart hybrid. So manual and automatic G variants will have different engine along with different trim level and features but same variant name

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota Glanza G MT (Mild Hybrid Version) is priced at 7.22 lakhs, while the Equivalent grade in Baleno (Zeta Dualjet) is priced at 7.86 lakhs. So, Glanza is cheaper by 64k.

To clear the confusion,

Price wise, Glanza G MT = Baleno Delta Dualjet.
Equipment Wise Glanza G MT = Baleno Zeta Dualjet.

While G CVT & V CVT are similarly priced to Baleno Zeta CVT & Alpha CVT.

So this is exactly what I have been saying all along. Kudos to Toyota for keeping the prices in check, even if introductory. They can ofcourse increase them if the market response is good. Now, keeping all the jokes and sarcasm aside, why wouldn't I buy this car with the T badge. They are offering a superior warranty and my experience with their after sales has been extremely pleasant in last 15 years of owning Toyota cars.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

While I still feel Toyota could have done a lot more to differentiate. planning is just fantastic. I believe no one here in the forum expected this to happen. Cheaper/same price tag, additional warranty and a better brand. With Glanza Toyota is the 4th largest car manufacturer now in India. Well played Toyota!

No lets run a poll, Glanza or Baleno?(I have shifted my vote from latter to former ).

Finally, the brochure is not a copy paste job of Suzuki. The brochure of Toyota Glanza is more informative than Suzuki Baleno.

Only G MT variant gets Hybrid engine, others get normal engine. Wonder why! If the engine is not compatible with AT, still why wasn't it given to V MT? Strange!

However the G variant is better equipped than Baleno Delta. It gets a host of features like projectors, Alloys, TFT MID etc. I would happily choose Glanza G over Baleno

This is why I think Toyota has pulled a masterstroke. There was a lot of negativity with the badge engineering. But now with the warranty, pricing and quality of service on offer I think Glanza will be able to decent numbers. Unlike the Yaris, Glanza now seems a value proposition.
Also this reaffirms my belief that car manufacturers do scan for customer sentiment in our forum. All the negative sentiment might've led to keep prices in check.

I did not realise this earlier. I thought Toyota has just matched the pricing and even then it looked to be a good proposition. Now with the lower pricing, it is indeed a master stroke.

I have a theory here:
I read somewhere that Maruti dealers are not stocking the Dualjet variants and those variants are only available against bookings. Which means that Maruti is not 'actively' pushing the Dualjet engine. Now, with Toyota offering the same variant for 64k less (on-road difference would be 75k), there will be a lot of buyers for this engine. So, may be this is a well thought of move from both the automakers to create some differentiation.

Kudos to Toyota on the pricing;

With the pricing same/less than the baleno; People may now begin to gravitate towards toyota showrooms for a hatchback.

If there is a huge upswing in Glanza volumes, can the current Toyota service centre infra keep-up to deliver the same quality of after-sales service?

Maruti is already smooth sailing with respect to handling heavy service volumes.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Maruti Suzuki's Baleno is deprived of being the best seller in May sales, relegates to Nr. 5 and that brings SWIFT as the top seller in May.

SWIFT - 17038

Baleno - 15176

Glanza - 2142

Baleno+Glanza - 17318

Toyota mentions that the deliveries of the Glanza hatchback will start from today onward.

With the given aggressive pricing and a hybrid engine albiet from Suzuki, this is a potential cash cow for Toyota. I wonder how's Toyota going to position their rumored next gen etios twins, since now they've caught attention of price sensitive consumers.

Offtopic:- If Toyota can fix the Liva's dashboard and other interior bits and relauch, that will be another money spinner for them. I have had several long rides in the Liva and it is one no nonsense car.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Boy oh boy!! I did not see that one coming! Initially was pleasantly surprised by the similar pricing and thought G MT is comparable to the Delta Hybrid. But Toyota actually priced the Zeta Hybrid level variant LOWER than Baleno's Delta Hybrid. How on earth did they manage to do that!! At 7.22 lakhs the Glanza G Hybrid (Baleno Zeta Hybrid) is fantastic VFM. My jaw is still on the floor!!
