I just parked the Fiesta there for 4 days when I went to B'lore over the long weekend. I was not very keen and this is the first time I am parking overnight at the airport, but a colleague does that often and wonder why anyone would opt for a taxi.

So, the last time I went to pick someone from airport, I checked the long term parking and found it to be covered and with cameras too. So, I picked a spot right next to a camera this time. Except for dust, which we cannot help in India, everything else was fine with the parking.
That's accurate information. I just parked my car at Cochin Airport domestic parking area. I've paid Rs.150 for 24 hours. The receipt mentions the time of parking, car number and owner's mobile and the same details are to be filled in a register.

Re: Long stay car parking @ Indian airports?

Parked my car for 28 hours at Chennai airport and had to cough up an insanely expensive ₹1,400 as parking charges. Wouldn't recommend anyone to think of long term parking at Chennai airport at all.

Re: Long stay car parking @ Indian airports?

Frankly the AAI-run airports are now equal to or more than the PPP ones in many service charges without providing the same level of service and facilities.

For example, in BLR you would have paid 800 bucks for 28 hours:

I think this is how they calculate it:

First 24 hours = Rs. 500
Hours 25 & 26 = Rs. 50
Hours 27 & 28 = Rs. 50
Total for 28 hours = Rs. 600.

Their software has algorithm to determine the lowest cost to you. If you park for 22 hours for example, the hourly rate calculation is Rs. 100 + 10 x Rs. 50 = Rs. 600 but they will charge you only Rs. 500 (for 24 hours).

(Mostly from memory; been a few months since I used the long-term parking at KIAL).

Does anyone know what parking rates are at Chennai airport. May need to park there for about 5 days and driving from Vellore and parking may be more economical than taxis to and fro.

Rs. 450 per 24 hours. There's a contact number where you can call and confirm.

Rs. 700 for 24 hours. 5 days would be Rs. 3,500. Mind you, they calculate in hours but charge per day. So if you cross your 5th day by even a minute, you'll have to pay an additional 700 rupees.

Re: Long stay car parking @ Indian airports?

I called up Chennai Airport and was given this number as the parking-in-charge person: 8681898815.
On calling this person, the lady who picked up the phone said it cos Rs. 450 per day.

Im not sure if there is a difference between cars and SUVs that made it 1400 for 2 days for y2ksrs

Re: Long stay car parking @ Indian airports?

Recently had to park my car at Trichy airport for a week. They charge 300 rupees per day. High in my opinion, but then for the flexibility, I found it worth.

Re: Long stay car parking @ Indian airports?

I find Bengaluru Airport (KIAL) to be pretty reasonable for short-to-medium trips from 1 day to~3 days. Very safe and I insist on parking in the long term parking vehicle slots next to a more expensive vehicle :-).

No harm so far even after 8+ years and at least average 3 monthly trips!

Re: Long stay car parking @ Indian airports?

guys, enlighten me about the need for long term parking at airports. Am I missing something? Why would anyone park their car for over a week at Airports? What purpose does it serve. I understand a day or two, but over a week?

You are right; India still does not have the true Long Term Car Parking (LTCP) concept which is very popular elsewhere because of the lack of viable LTCP parking options near our airports. Neither the Public-Private-Partnerships nor AAI encourages such initiatives nearby and nor do we have the critical mass of private vehicles being driven to airports and back. Much better to invest in public transport given the eco factor and convenience!
