The experience was totally different when we went to check out few other manufacturers with regular follow up calls and messages. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about TATA dealerships. In fact this was the case with 2 TATA dealerships.

Harrier BS6 vs BS4 price comparison:
Quote:
Tata Harrier BS6 has been launched with a lot upgrades. To start with, it gets a more powerful 170 PS diesel 2.0 liter engine. In BS4 Harrier, this engine delivered 140 PS. Not only the new BS6 engine is a lot more powerful delivering better acceleration and performance, it is also a lot smoother and refined. Thanks to BS6 update, NVH levels of the new Harrier has also been improved.

In addition to the engine update, you also get larger alloys which increases stability, panoramic sunroof, new colour, and infotainment system that is a more responsive and smoother. All these updates will cost you up to Rs 69,000 more. Below is the price list comparison of BS6 Harrier with BS4 Harrier manual variants.

Tata Harrier also receives updated interiors with 6 way powered driver seat with lumbar support, auto dimming IRVMs, new infotainment system and USB port on its central console. The Tata Harrier sunroof will measure 1,240mm in length and 870mm in width. It offers special features of anti pinch, rain sensing closure, roll over screen with black coating and separate user friendly switches for each function. It also gets global close function wherein the sunroof closes when the ignition is off.

Re: The BS6 Tata Harrier with 6-speed AT. EDIT: Launched @ 13.69 lakhs

The price difference seems reasonable. But in the case of XM, the difference takes it beyond an ex-showroom of 15 lakhs. At least in states like Kerala, this will make a big difference in on-road prices because of the way tax slabs are implemented. I remember, while buying my Hexa, it was listed at 14.90 and Tata did a price correction making it 15.09. That increased the on-road price by a lakh or so. The dealer was kind enough to make some adjustments and lower my additional burden.

Wish there was some way to get around that. For a second I thought that Tata could say something like the spare wheel is technically optional. But that aint possible because CMRV says this item is mandatory. And I dont really expect Tata to adopt the strategy of pricing the cars to help us save on OTR price - even though it can really help customers and may be bring a few more into the fold.

Why not?

There are so many manufacturers whom I have interacted with who intentionally price the car at 9.95L ex showroom just so the customer can benefit from lower road tax. Ford used to do this then VW as well as Skoda and even Toyota kept one variant of Yaris at 9.99L ex showroom. Same with Honda for the City SV which was 9.9L.

So how come Tata is not able to do this?

That's how it works for pretty much every car I've seen that has a panoramic sunroof.

Check the Compass or Endeavour. Opens the same way.

Ford still does. BS4 titanium diesel Ecosport retailed at 9.99 and still retails at 9.99 in BS6 form. IMO it's a win-win.

Funny how the guys at Rushlane can experience improved NVH, refinement and stability just from sitting in a stationary vehicle at the expo. Or has Tata given them secret test rides before the media drive?

Test drives of the automatic Harrier should happen in March as per the local dealer update. I believe by then the media test drives would have happened as well.

Thanks for the scoop. Finally an automatic Harrier on the cards. I've always found the Harrier to be the best looking among the current crop of SUVs and with ample space too. Can consider this in our list now since both me and wifey decided that the next car MUST be an automatic and SUV (her choice).
Hope all the Gen-1 niggles will also be sorted out by now.

I wonder if Tata is still offering the 95,000INR sunroof as an accessory now?
