Same here. I called a couple of dealers near my home in Powai, Mumbai and they have no clue. The Nexa online booking engine isn't working, either. Doesn't have the option for Jimny.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door caught testing in India

Fairly well kitted on safety front. And glad they've accepted it to be a 4 seater only.

The Alpha gets a lot of goodies but Zeta is also well kitted. Will I buy it? Still undecided.

With booking starting now and deliveries mostly in June as price reveal is in May, it may have a huge waiting period.

The brochure.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door caught testing in India

1. Safety wise extremely well kitted. Especially coming from Maruti.
2. Only 2 variants on offer. Zeta and Alpha. Hopefully lower variants will be launched in the future.
3. AllGrip 4X4 system on all variants for both MT and AT. Hopefully we'll see a 2WD variant in the future for those who don't need a 4X4 just like what M&M did with the Thar.
4. All hopes on the pricing now. Hopefully Maruti will price this sensibly without getting greedy. I've already informed my Nexa advisor to block a booking slot for me. But the game is on the pricing now. Should be sub 14 or 15 Lakhs. Anything more doesn't make sense IMHO for a vehicle this size.

If the ride quality isn't too bad, and price undercuts Thar 4x2, itl be a perfect 1/2nd vehicle for most people. Thar already has 2/3 place locked in for pretty much everyone.

Finally the wait is over, but now the game of guessing prices have begun. Anything above 14-15L will kill the excitement

Even Ive been trying to check on booking.
But Jimny doesnt appear even as an option on Nexa.
Their launch activity is pretty poorly coordinated. I would have expected better considering the bated breath with which many people await such momentous launches.
Maybe time for Maruti to engage a better PR agency and Event Manager.
There is strong temptation to book one. But it will be more sensible to test drive the manual and the AT before making a decision.
And there is that 5 door Thar also which is in the offing and that is another temptation.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door caught testing in India

Something says they're gonna overprice it. Thar has a lot of road presence even with all its niggles imho and jimny's success will finally come down to its pricing. Companies don't announce pricing when they know it's overpriced. Hyundai didn't announce for Tucson I believe but at the same time did so for the ioniq 5 at 44l(seems good for what it is). If it's reasonable they announce at launch.

They are probably waiting to gauge the response once the ‘blind bookings’ commence. And will take a call based on the demand. This is actually a pretty smart marketing tactic.
Saying this, I don't think Maruti will be over ambitious. After all they are best known for VFM.

Despite being known for their VFM, they have made blunders with the launch prices of - Alto (back in 2002), Ignis, S-Cross 1.6 MJD and the recent Brezza is one of the most expensive in the segment.

The headlights are not projector type?

Whether it is possible to replace the LED lamps by Halogens? Is LED too bad and risky in foggy conditions?

I did a blind booking, Kinetic Yellow AT.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door caught testing in India

The Jimny looks nice and seems practical, but for a car that weighs 1.5 tons, it's massively underpowered with just 135nm torque. The 1.5L Thar has a lot more oomph (on paper, of course) and with it probably being cheaper than the Jimny, the Thar is still my pick over the Maruti.
