My vista vx 2011 gave me 15.91 kmpl and 16.50 kmpl in two different tankfuls. I am worried it may be below par for the national engine. But then I drive with a heavy right foot and with the ac always on (even when the car is stationary at times). These figures are for 80% city and 20% highway driving.

But I still think the FE is quite low. Maybe time for a service though its done only 5K since the last one.
I think you should be getting around 12-15 kmpl in Bangalore traffic. From my experience, changing the climate control from 18 to 23 will work wonders on fuel efficiency. My friend's Verna gives bad fe when his brother who drives an alto takes it out (shifts are close to 4000 rpm or above). I don't know whether 2009 model i20 is equipped with gear shift indicator, but if it’s present following it would help.

This is on par with what I'm getting in my 2009 Vista. I think the Vista is heavier than Swift/Ritz and hence may not give the same FE as they do atleast in the city. In the highway the difference won't be significant.

Wow!!!
32 kmpl through a tank full!!
Those are record breaking numbers. That means on occasion you would have hit more than that. Amazing.

@mayankk, let me put across one important factor in achieving such figures on any car "Density of Population", without taking away any credit from @ImprezaFan's sane driving & his driving skills & experience .

Delhi has 1484 sq km area as compared to 38863 sq km Kerala has. Now, consider the population numbers of 33 lacs for Kerala & 125 lacs for Delhi. The density of population comes to 29K+headcount/ sq km for delhi as compared to mere 860 people/ sq km for much bigger Kerala (all numbers as per Wikipedia).

This also means there are much lesser vehicles on Kerala roads as compared to Delhi Roads. Add to this, driving out of city & at the night time, don't you think any sane driver can achieve such figures, which we in Delhi/NCR call hyper-miling.

Hope you got the point I am trying to explain.

Hey, I'm not trying to take anything away from his skills. He's done it, excellent!
I'm just so used to being amazed by cars here which give 16-17on petrol, while I am doing, through my own lead footedness, 10-13,that it just blew me away, the 33 figure, even if it's Diesel.
I understand density, and factors affecting mileage, but that number is more than even test track mileage.
It's like Einstein's brain, that mill. It should be studied.

I think tankfull-tankfull calculation does not mean he's done 500 or 600km before filling up the tank the second time. As he said, it was a mileage run, so he could've started with a full tank, done maybe 50-100km and filled the tank again. Would be best if ImprezaFan clarifies his mileage run.

.
Exactly!! That's why I kept on emphasizing the conditions when I got the result. All conditions were so apt on that day (night, in fact) -- roads / traffic / ambient temperature / my resistance to temptation to step on the gas (for which I take full credit).

StarrySky is right. Topped up to full tank at the start and topped up to full tank after the run (quantity used for the second top-up was considered as fuel consumption) - Sorry for the confusion if the useage "full tank-to-full tank" was wrong.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Model : Ford Figo T. (2013)

Got my first service done recently.

Actual FE: 17.5 kmph

The Car is mostly used in the city around 7am & 5pm. Did a trip to Somnathpura which helped the FE immensely. In the city used with 80% AC On.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My car is a 2008 Waggie, with a free flow exhaust.

My usage is around 60% city and 40% highway.

Did a tankful to tankful test recently and I got a mileage of 17.6kpl, with around 80% AC usage.

I usually revv hard on single lane highways and in the city roads, but usually maintain 80 - 90 km/hr on dual lane highways, with occasional bursts of speed upto 120.

Cars I use, or have used in the past.

1994 VW Golf 1.9D (65bhp) (no turbo, indirect injection) 15-19
1997 VW Golf 1.9TDi (90bhp)16-22
1991 Mercedes 300TD, 10-14
1996 Audi 2.5TDi (140bhp) 15-17
2001 Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi (110bhp) 16-21

All the cars run on a high % of recycled vegetable oil.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My Dad was out of the country last month so while I could take out the Kizashi, filling petrol as often wasn't possible :P I drove with an extremely light foot, since it is a big-ish car, coasting is pretty easy too and in 100% city driving though 20% was done late in the night, I managed 13.3KMPL at an average speed of 32KMPH which doesn't sound like a lot, but I am mighty pleased of that figure. It involved several hours of stop and go traffic because of the metro works taking place in Hyderabad. The chap at the petrol pump where I usually go, even exclaimed how it had been a while since I last filled petrol. That put a huge grin on my mug
