items 8 & 10 are not needed at all. Next time around ask them why they did added additives without checking with you? else I find everything in order except that clutch/brake oil has not been replaced which is a recommended replacement every 20K kms.

@trrk--labour charges - paid service-750, wheel alignment-300,nitrogen filling-75,
battery testing 25. sevice tax-115, edu.cess 3.46.
regarding high running- it is the first car in my family and whenever i am busy with work, my family goes around with a hired driver. i have two offices which are 80km apart. hence such a high running.

@dieselfan- they did tell me that they are going to add those two additives and said it helps in something-something. i am newbie to automobiles and dont really understand the technicals.(so no ownership report yet). so i said yes to their suggestions. so far i have a pleasant experience with them.

Noticed that the car was idling at 600 rpm instead of the normal 800 and also driving at 200 rpm lower than usual. This happens when I start the car in the evening when its been parked for the entire day.

Once I switch the engine off and start again, its back to normal 800.

Thoughts people ?

Edit: Its close to 70k kms now.

These additives are of no use. see some information of why additives shouldn't be used in the below site -

Car maintenance bibles: Oil Additives.

You can also find host of other information on the car in this site. Please read the same and become aware of your car.

Eddy i think it might the EGR blocked or even one of the sensors which is dirty. Good idea to keep a watch and see if any error pops up.

Yesterday, while driving on Highways at the speed between 90-100km/hr, the horn acted strangely, I blew the horn and the tone was vibrating, It was evident from hearing that it wasn't the normal sound. I stopped, checked for wire shortage or someting, nothing strange, I found.
Then again I blew the horn and speed was belwo 40k/hr, It sounded fine. But it sounded strange again in range of 90km/hrs. It's sound as if it's about to die.
Today, I was on Highway again, and the horn was working fine.
Electric equipment of the car is stock, but ICE,It's disconnected as of now. I checked the wires from battery to amp,all the wires looked fine.
What could be the reason?

I faced similar problem. Mine was the case of loose wires at the horn end. As horn is placed behind the bumper this is a very common problem. Take it to A.S.S and they would fix this issue in a jiffy.

Check the horn clips first as advised.

Is it OE horn? Single or twin? Mine which was single conked out after one good TVM-BLR blast

At higher speed especially longer drives battery voltage peaks and horn tuning goes for a toss, if the contact points are wearing out. Horns with adjustable contacts can be "tuned" back, fixed ones will need replacement. OE ones are not very expensive and that reminds me i also need to order a set lol

A little off topic BUt i find this thread as quite informative....

I have just purchased a Swift Vdi 13 month old with 23K on odo.
My question is which type of fuel I should used, previous owner has used speed diesel since begining but I think maruti does not say anything about fuel.
So from now on I should use premium or normal diesel?

You should be using Normal diesel... Premium tend to smoke in DDiS and not worth paying the extra premium

Swift VDi - Problem with gear shifting

Hi Junta,

Over the last few weeks, I had observed that the 'play' on the gear lever had increased in my VDi. This was annoying as the sporty feel was gone. Nonetheless, the gears were working. A couple of days later, I see that I cannot engage the reverse gear as well. Oh man, I thought I should now take it more seriously. Somehow manage to roll the car back and started driving. On my way, I found out that I cannot engage the 1st, 2nd, 5th and Reverse; means, I could toggle only between 3rd and 4th. Once in a signal, I managed to find 2 and used that same gear to reach Bimal. I had a friend who had the similar experiences with the 'play' being more on the lever. I very well knew there was problem with some cable or something but would be simple.

At BIMAL, they clearly told me, the bush on the engine side of the gear lever has fallen off. Its a rubber bush it seems and would only be pressed. The gear lever's cable/metal rod has a whole at the end and would sit inside a protruding and the rubber bush would keep the rod in tact. I then asked them to replace the bush. Then started the problem. They told me, such a Bush is not available at all. There is no part number for that bush. I said, what else can I do then ? They are like, you have to replace the entire cable set which might cost you around 2.5k. I don't want to be spending 2.5k to get a bush. Coming to the wearing of the bush, the mechanics told me, this is very very common especially with the Swift-Diesels. The battery is located much towards the center in diesel when compared to petrol and apparently the battery droppings fall on the rubber bush which wears it out. This was what was told me to me.

The mechanics then tied a metal string to keep the rod in tact and put insulation on that to reduce the 'play' on the lever. So, what is it that you guys suggest ?

1. Should I ask Maruti to get this thing covered under warranty and get a completely new one ?
2. Or should I drive with the makeshift metal-string-bound rod ? Will this be reliable ? I have my doubts ?

Thanks guys.

Meanwhile, got my rubber and wheels changed. Driveability has improved to a great extent after the rubber change.

Ditto problem as mine.

Got the bush replaced. 25 bucks.

Did not help the problem. Then one fine day, the car refused to slot into gear at all.
The entire gear cable was replaced under warranty (after a lot of debate) along with the clutch assembly (paid). Get your clutch bearing checked too.

Oh thanks a lot Eddy. I am off to Kalyani then. Will check it straight away. One more question to you. My clutch is very very hard. The service guys say, its part of the wear, but its really hard from the beginning. What is that I can do ?

Get the cable attended before you screw up the gearbox synchronizers. Clutch try bleeding the circuit and see if it helps, apart from that no other settings adjustment option for this car.
