The setup looks insane. And like vivek said, im sure the car is all about in-gear acceleration rather than outright acceleration and will pull the pants off many bigger cars. The question about the fuel sill remains and what tyres is this monster running.I remember FORD ROCAM struggling for grip in his turbo city with most tyres. All in all a definite stuff to boast about.

I too have a similar question about the reliability of the tyres if driven in the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

Autocar January issue

Pythagoras, Herodotus, Plato and Aristotle. They all had to face a lot of arguments when they first said the earth was round. The ignorant said that it wasn’t, because the earth appeared flat to their eyes. Well, now almost everyone knows who was right.

On a Diwali day I created some waves when I said I had a brief drive on a Peter fettled Octavia RS that has been remapped to produce 500bhp. I have seen the car, experienced the raw power under its hood and carefully penned a small review so that team-bhpians get the information before anyone else.

Unfortunately, some people in the forum who claim to have ‘seen it all’ got very irritated. All through their life, they have been trying their best to squeeze out an additional 15-20 bhp out of their cars and were making a huge fuss over it when some one was claiming to have driven a 500bhp Octavia! Without a shade of doubt someone said this was impossible. And when one pointed out it was possible, another said it was pointless. They even said Peter would be spoiling his reputation when people like me put reports of his car. The said, my report was tarnishing his image and the hard work he has put on his car, but anyone with half the brain could sense the fear and jealousy these people had when they said all these. They preferred to believe that such an Octavia didn’t exist. And even if it did, they should have been invited to drive it rather than me.

I have seen the same people going ga ga over the performance advantage of the new cotton air filter or FFE they installed in their car. They speak of it as the ultimate mod and the performance gain would be ‘tremendous’

Now that Autocar has driven it in their January issue, I think I can revive the thread. What I wrote before was about the feel of the car. I didn’t have any test data to accompany it nor did I bother to get any. All your doubts can be put to rest now because the acceleration of the RS500 has been tested by equipments. The title itself says a lot. “Octavia that’s faster than a Porsche!!”

kph.......sec
0 ......... 0
20........ 1.27
40........ 2.52
60........ 3.72
80........ 5.38
100........6.68
120....... 8.55
140........10.36
160....... 12.48
180....... 16.16
200....... 19.70

Now, the 0-100kmph time of 6.68 second although impressive, doesn’t seem to belong to a car with 500bhp. Now please…don’t start. Instead, take a look at the 0-200kmph time of 19.7seconds. That is in super-car league.

Read the entire review and you get why I was so excited about it. And remember you read it first on team-bhp.

I just read the ACI article myself. 200kmph in under 20 secs is mind boggling

very nice vivek i can understand your joy and frustration. You produced a report and thats good enough. And now let the figures do the talking...
Hats off to everyone involved in such a project.

While good people like you are full of appreciation about the review, you knew what happened when i said this first.

Frustration then sounded too little a word to describe my feelings.

Chill Vivek.
We very much thank you for your first hand report.
Please understand that nobody is/was blaming you for any false data. Everyone's theory is just based out of previous experiences. If you yourself see, then you would know that almost 8 out of 10 such claims have been found to be amplified than actual.
One more suggestion : why dont you ask the owner to dyno the car. I am sure it will help him get more juice out of the car resulting in more pleasurable driving experience. Please note this is not to prove any bhp claims.

Hmm vivekji, I for one am looking forward to the article. 6.68 seconds to ton is ok, but yeah you already know what everyone is thinking...

Please don't take this the wrong way, but your post isn't very friendly at all, hard to get acceptance if you keep that up...

Anyway all that said and done why not post some Dyno figures, that'd be much more appreciated than times, as it would show the real horsepower the car puts out, times would be tarnished by the fact that the car wouldn't hook up

cheers:

It doesn't look friendly? Yes, I too felt the same earlier when everyone was telling I was wrong.

As far as dyno figures are concerned, should I really bother?

@vivek

I always did & still maintain that the owner being happy is ALL that matters. The validation of Autocar goes a long way to silence the cynics & critics. Peter's reputation is too well founded to be tarnished. (I have not seen a single post from him) owning up to or disowning the achivement.

I am sure it is a great car to drive, and an even better one to "test drive" (as test driving gives you the pleasure without the pain $$)

Great going Peter..

Vivek - one word of uncalled for advice, get the hostility out of the way. Don't bother of what x, y or z say or said. The proof of the pudding is in the eating !!

Chill

Cheers

Yes Ricky, I do remember.

If you go to the first section of the thread, you know the reason for my attitude.

However I need not keep boiling anymore!!

Which part of whatever you said in your post proves that it is 500bhp?

But i completely agree with the "Faster than a Porsche" statement.

A 2005 Boxster takes 19.9 secs to hit 200kmph (only 0.2 secs slower than this 500bhp car). Well its a different story that the Boxster has only 280bhp. LOL

So either this car is not 500bhp, or its highly inefficient at putting its power down.

Why can't you just say its a fast Skoda and be happy? These performance figs are pathetic for a 500bhp FWD.

A real 500bhp car will do 0-200 kph in ~12-13 secs. This car frankly is just a lot of hot air. Its probably very powerful but no way 500 bhp or even close.
