HID's on Honda Civic

Folks,

I read a lot about HID's and their usefulness in High Beam and Fog Lamps in this forum.

I recently upgraded my Civic to HID's.

I got Philips Ballasts and Philips Bulbs from OEM distributor Methods Automotive directly.

I fixed HB4 (9006) for Low Beam, HB3 (9005) for High Beam and H11 for Fog Lamps. The installation was supervised by me at a known garage and there were no alterations to original wiring. All we needed was to make holes for the Ballasts on the Frame (6 holes). The kit came with wiring for Plug n Play fitment and enough tags and screws for a correct fitment.

The Bulbs are 6000 K and are Extreme white (but not purple or blue). They need 10 - 15 seconds to heat up from "blue startup" to "white light" and hence I can not use the flasher on high beam effectively. (for those who like to use flasher feature, please retain OEM Halogen bulbs on High Beam).

Other than that I find the focus and throw of both low beam and high beam as accurate as was the OEM light. The brightness is good for clear vision all the way. The fog lamps have the right dispersion and I do not see any problems at all. The wattage is 35 on all and hence I presume the power consumption should be lower.

I drove with all three switched on in blinding Thunderstorm in Bangalore today and I found the result great. I never felt that Yellow halogen light could have performed better than this,

This feedback is for all those who were discussing HID's.

Thanks folks...

Hi Guys. I am new in this so wahted you opinion and please excuse my knowlege on this. I have Ford Fiesta and was thinking of upgrading to HID. I want the Low beam to be on HID and the High beam on normal White lights. If i have Low beams on HID and fog lights on normal White lights which you get like Philips Diamond vision etc. will this make sense?? I dont want to spend so much on lights hence was thinking of getting only the low beam on HID and rest (High beam and Fog lights on normal white bulbs you get). Will this make sense? If so then how much do you think would be the damage for the whole thing? I live in delhi so let me know the price accordingly. i know that HID cost around 9-10K and rest of the bulbs would cost me around 1-2K. Is this correct? Also i would really appreciate if you guys can let me know which number goes in what state. I mean for the Low beam, what is the number (H1,H2,H3 etc) and also for the High beam and Fog lights. As i said i am really new to this, i dont know what H1,H2 etc means. Please advice.

Ford fiesta low beam is h7, high beam is H1, and fog is H8.For low beam you will need a spacer don't forget to buy it other wise you can't fix it.

Greenhorn,

The cost per kit was Rs. 9,800 (MRP). I did not negotiate as till recently the price was upwards of 12 K before Philips dropped the price. The garage which installed was known to me and he pleaded that he had very little margin after this reduction. The installation cost me Rs. 500 per set.

Essentially Rs. 30,900.00 for entire stuff up and running.

I went to Whitefield Honda today and asked the guys to recheck the fitment and bumper clamps to ensure there were no loose ends. In the bargain the folks raised the focus a little and adjusted the throw. It cost me Rs. 83 (seriously)

I will update you all on the Highway experience once I go for a long drive which could be in a few days.

Thanks again.

Hi, I went shopping for the Safari yesterday. Found a shop selling Osram nightbreakers. The price on the packing was 1650/- for a pair and he was willing to give it for around 1350/-.

From what I understood, the nightbreakers cost around 700/- a pair !

Any idea of what the official price is ?

Umang these Night Breakers are available for Rs.1250 for a pair and the price on the box is only for the customs purpose and no need to worry. You need to bargain with the supplier and squeeze discounts.
