re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

Request the person to share the source of news as well. Just declaring without any concrete background is not good. It's not even launched here.

As per the article in Rushlane, if it is launched at 5.8 there how much difference it will be here? Are there any existing bikes which are launched in both countries so that a guess can be made on the pricing difference?

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

The pricing is purely speculative. Derived from Malaysia launch prices:

BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh-img_2231.jpg

BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh-img_2232.jpg

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

For the number crunchers
Malaysia has two categories

CBU Bikes under 1800cc-
MFN 30%
CEPT 0%

CKD Bikes under 1800cc
MFN 10%
CEPT 0%

Excise Duty
75%
Sales Tax
10%
Which means the ex- India price should be between 2.3 to 2.7L. This will put the ex-factory price to about 3.10-3.20 (being real liberal with rounding off numbers- maths is not absolute, here) and then the profit, taxes etc.

ADDED UPDATE----

Maybe I got my number listening to the myriad groups- the same people who told me that the parallel twin had a 270 crank

Now for more fun data_ I made a few calls, and am told that the GS bookings open early 2018, and delivery will start mid-2018.

Price on date is an estimated 4L- give or take the taxes.I cannot fine tune my reply any more than this. you just have to consider me as your source.

Is it confirmed that it is going to be GS and not GR? I wonder what will happen to G310R.

G310R might come as a TVS Variant of the bike. Just my guess.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

Autocar is quoting an expected price tag of 2.25-2.4 lakhs, which is almost at the same price band as Duke 390. However, this seems too less considering, TVS Apache RR 310 costs 2.05 lakhs and BMW's snob value which would let them price it in higher price band. But if it is indeed true, then Duke 390 may have got a worthy competitor in the guise of BMW G310R.

Doubt it. Because the BMW Motorrad dealership network can't handle big volumes now. Nor do they have coverage to achieve volumes.

Hence the pricing might be on the premium side with a good focus on providing a quality experience as compared to KTM.

Even if BMW prices it competitively, what about the after sales service costs and spare parts cost? Can anyone throw some light on this? I am eagerly looking forward to this, but at the back of my mind there is this fear of through the roof service costs. It should not happen that a basic service costs upwards of 12-15k .

Could u elaborate on the quoted bit?

What autocar has quoted is the right price for the bike. Where it has a chance to be competitive. A good price

Enough of BMW brand name jibberish please, unless someone wants to discuss with me how KTM is a lesser brand and should automatically slot beneath Bimmer

Calm down buddy.

Actually know two BHPians who are my good friends and would be in a better position to comment on this. One sold his KTM due to niggles and another has the new 390, which although is a stunning piece of machinery - has a lot of QC niggles particularly relating to the console. Interested? Hope atleast one of them chips in soon.

KTM is certainly not a lesser brand. Pretty much aware of their international reputation - before you point in that direction. Not sure which part of my post was brand name jibberish though.

Agreed. Did i contest it?

Looks like you completely misunderstood my point. I did not say they deserve to have a higher price tag, I said they might decide on a higher price tag since they wont be a volume player in our market like KTM.

Big difference between the two. Peace.

Almost all of the critical parts are shared with the Apache RR 310; and the G310 R is a 'Made in India' product. It may be expensive in other parts of the world, but so is the Duke 390. I think BMW will keep the parts and service costs reasonable.

If and I say IF, the baby Beemer comes out niggle free and we don't have people complaining about the headlights, meter console etc etc then definitely a lot of people would not mind spending more on the initial purchase or the service cost, myself included. This would automatically put BMW on higher plane so to speak. Let's keep the brand discussion limited between the 390 vs 310 in India as these models are mass market. Let the 310 launch, run a bit and we will know which one is better.

KTM is a global brand for sure, but for most people (repeat most people) BMW will always be a higher/more premium brand. It's a perception which has been and will always be.

Cheers

Well, I brought the Duke 390 in August 2017. 3500 kms done so far, the fancy console is a piece of garbage, keeps crashing even now and then, odo resets, off late if I switch off the bike at signals, the bike doesn't start. I thought these were sorted in the 2018 Duke, a colleague's friend brought one recently, the white colored one and his console also crashed and his ODO went back by 50 kms. It has been more than a year since the new model was launched and the manufacture has no interest in solving the issues. Just having good performance isn't going to get the manufacturer any respect from people migrating from other reliable brands. As for KTM service, I have experienced it twice and I better not talk about it. If BMW can give me a reliable bike and good service, I don't mind paying the extra premium. KTM's are no more VFM bikes, the new one costs 2.97 OTR and that too with a bag full of issues.
